Well usually puppies are almost completely weened at 6 weeks of age. but should not be sent home to a new family until 8 weeks of age. So they shouldn't need to rely on their mother's milk but if they steal some from her on ocassion as they do sometimes it won't hurt the puppies. Never heard of that. Actually you shouldn't of got the puppies vacines until the age of 8 weeks. Any sooner than that can cause complications from the vaccines.

That is freaking retarded. Find another vet ASAP!!!!!!!!! There still MAY be antibidoes in the milk...you can't tell. But you still vaccinate puppies because you can't tell when the maternal antibodies are no more.
The mother may not even be giving the puppies any immunity at all!!!! Especially if she was not up to date on her vaccines.
Even if she is, you do not know when she will no longer be passing immunity to the puppies. THAT IS WHY WE VACCINATE PUPPIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It will not cause any problems if she is still passing them immunity and they get vaccinated!!!
Most bit ches will wean them on their own. They let them nurse less and less and weaning occurs naturally. Forced weaning is bad for all. Let it happen gradually. Some bit ches will let the puppies nurse some until they go to new homes. LET THEM BE!!!!!!!!
MAybe what he was saying is that if the puppies are still getting immunity from the mom, they would not need a vaccines, so it would offer NO MORE protestion anyway. BUT..AGAIN... YOU DON'T KNOW IF SHE IS OR NOT. That is why puppies get a series of vaccines....you don't know when the maternal antibodies wear off. They CAN still nurse and most do!!! Good breeders do NOT force weaning!!!!!!!

I have been breeding for over 20 years and my pups are wormed at 2,4,6,and 8 weeks along with mom and I was told by my vet to vaccinate at 6,9 and 12 weeks
My pupps do begin weaning at 4 weeks old and often not on solid food and stillon mom until 8-9 weeks old (I breed toy dogs)
I have also worked in several vets offices and never heard this.
I would stronly sugest finding another vet

That has to be the silliest thing I have ever heard! Let the puppies be with their mom. Another week of nursing is best anyway. She will start to wean them on her own around that time.

The vaccines will not create an active immunity if the pups continue to get antibodies from Mom. If you are keeping any of these, it wouldn't hurt to allow that one to nurse because later after it is weaned you will update the shots anyway. If they are going out into the world, you want them to have some active immunity of their own.

At 7 weeks your pups should be weaned off of mom anyway.
Mom`s milk production will stop if you keep the pups from nursing.

Not true. Although they are old enough to be weaned they can still nurse. I do just that...for the mother's sake. I don't leave them with her all day but I do let them nurse enough to give her relief.
