I haven't been in the dog food isle of the grocery store for a while . I have been feeding my puppy canidae but it seems lately she'd rather starve and eat her own poop than to eat that . I may try feeding her canidae or innova when she gets older or something. I dont live near a store that sales healthy dog foods and I cant just keep traveling back and forth to the specialty petstore thats like 80-90 miles just to try out healthy dog foods to see which one she likes. Right now she'll only eat the purina pro plan puppy food for large breeds ,thats what the vet gave her. I just want to know if I can get that at the grocery store or does the veternarian have to get it for me ?
Thank You

why dont you try another quality food instead of feeding her one with corn, by products, and fillers in it.
there are lots of good companies that make puppy foods that she might like better.

Pro Plan can't be gotten at grocery stores. The best at grocery stores is Purina One. Puppy chow is not good cause it has a lot of "Mystery Meat", Corn, and By-products in it. Dogs can do OK on it, but I don't think they'll thrive on it. Puppies have a lot going for them healthwise too. Keep them on the Chow long though, you'll have a lot more shedding and most likely hot spots. Purina One is okay though, not great, but okay.
If your vet gave you the proplan, he can most likely sell it to you. Every vet needs to make a buck. Ask if they have Selects or Naturals line (think it's selects, but it's no artificial color or preservatives and I think no by-product or corn too).
As far as a good food that will ship to you for free, try Timberwolf Organics. Spend 15$ on their website http://www.timberwolforganics.com and they pick up the cost for shipping. Timberwolf is an EXCELLANT food and competitve with Canidae in quality. They also have a variety of flavors your pup can try.

No you cant get it at the grocery store. Petsmart has it. I don't know if you can maybe order it online. Send an email to Purina and ask them if it is available near you or if they can arrange something with a local retailer.
Purina One is close to it, but probably not the same. Could try a small bag and see if your dog eats it. My dog is a Pro-plan dog and has never turned her nose up at any of it-even with a turkey on the table.
If you can't get it direct from Purina, ask your vet.

I have no clue where you live but Southern States Big Red Endurance is a really good feed. Also Tractor Supply Co. has Diamond which is very good. Purina One can be purchased in Food Lion and Wal-mart. Hope this info helps you out. Good luck.

I also have a finicky eater. My vet put her on Pro-Plan Selects. Pro-Plan and Pro-Plan Selects is not available in the grocery store. You can get it from the larger pet stores. Here in Long Island New York, Petsmart has the best price. $2.00 cheaper than Petco.

I feed my dogs Purina Puppy Chow, as I'm like you, and can't afford to drive 100 miles and spend 50 bux in gas to find a specialty pet shop for natural dog foods,(we live in a small town and don't have those types of luxuries here) and then spend 35 bux on a small bag of dog food... I've always heard that Purina Puppy Chow is crappy... but my dogs are all healthy, well maintained, shiney fur, happy, and no digestive problems. So I say why not?

Purina sucks!! why not try mixing some canned Canidae in with the dry Canidae. why not order your Canidae online at petfood direct so you wont have to drive.

No...However some breeders are distributers of the food. (They buy in bulk)You may find a breeder who is closer to you than a store.

If you have one nearby try your local feed store.
If they don`t have it in stock, most will put it on the shelf or order it for you.
