This is a pretty dumb question, but yeah, I'm not too sharp on tech stuff, and I was thinking about getting a PS3... So, is it worth paying an extra $100 for 80gigs? And why? Thanks :)

The 80 gig has a few more options than the 40 gig version.

40gb has only 2 USB ports, No card readers, no EE chip (no backwards compatibility), whereas the 80gb has everything and is about 80% backwards compatible with PS2 games.

Hope this helps.

yeh mate i is worth it because ps3 80Gb has ps2 backward compatibility so that means you can play ps2 games on it where as the 40gb you can not, also with the 80gb it has flash card readers witch means you can take the memory card out of your camera and insert it into the ps3. but the 40gb does not have this feature.
also the 80gb has 4 USB ports and the 40gb only has 2.
There is also the obvious one, harddrive space. but this is not really a problem seeing as you can change the harddrive to a larger one.(i bought a 60gb ps3, and now i have put in 300Gb)
so if you dont really care about all the stuff i have mentioned go the 40Gb

in case you want backwards compatibility with PS2 video games and want a bigger stressful force, get the 80GB PS3. in case you do no longer care approximately PS2 backwards compatibility and don't likely care with reference to the intial stressful force length, get the 40GB PS3. real now the 80GB PS3 metallic kit good 4 bundles that got here out June 12th are all offered out (they offered out the 1st day) and Sony mentioned that they are going to be delivery in extra 80GB PS3 MGS4 bundles in early July merely the day previously at present. in case you want a 80GB PS3 while they return to retail shops, you extra desirable be on the save while it opens while they first get them or pre-order it because of the fact they're going to maximum probably sell out. I have already got a PS3, yet as quickly as I have been determining on between the 40GB or 80GB, i might get the 80GB.

80GB is better only if you plan to play PS2 games. Apart from that - it's all the same. Despite 40GB has 2 USBs instead of 4, imho, I never use 4 USBs simultaneosly. 40GB doesn't have memory card reader - that's a fancy option, but not necessary. 40GB has newer cooling system and 65nm CPU (other versions have 90nm) lead to lower power consumption, than other versions.
