You are incorrect in saying we should not judge. The Bible says that if we judge we should expect to be judged likewise. What the Bible does say is that we will even judge angels, therefore the little things of earth should be easy for us to judge.

Stop it. You're clearly a victim of spin.
If homosexuality and abortion were our only debates, I'd be thrilled! But there is SO MUCH MORE WRONG with America!
How about the dichotomy? The deficit? The murdering and robbing and raping and the 50% divorce rate?
You're sitting there wallowing in the stew someone told you to wallow in. You're sitting there believing that it's wrong for two men or two women to be together, but it's fine for people to get a divorce after 2 days. It's fine to rape and pillage and plunder, but if that raped woman gets pregnant? MUST BE GOD'S ULTIMATE PLAN. Funny how he can create things out of sin now, eh?
It's just fine for people to be christian, but it's not fine that a culture that was supposedly founded on the teachings of peace has become militant, unthinking, uneducated, ignorant, and worst of all, hypocritical. You're not all this way, but I can't stand it when a christian claims an atheist has no morals or values because they don't have god, and go out the next day to preach oppression and closed mindedness. I hate that it's fine for a christian to do things that will hurt others because their god says they can do it, but they can reject science that has saved millions because some right-wing nut-job convinced the world that STEM CELL RESEARCH IS WRONG.
Most of all, I hate that you're not only trying to judge other men, but you're judging your own kind! I don't even know where to begin! All I can spit out right now is that YOU'RE the reason hatred exists.
That's all. Read. Learn. Maybe someday divisions of people won't matter and we'll all come to the realization that we're all HUMAN and we all need to exist together, so we better learn how.

Baylor University did a fascinating study on religion in America. They broke types of churches that call themselves Christian churches into liberal, mainstream and evangelical. Most all of those would claim the label of "Christian."
Not all of those churches fit a Biblical definition of being Christian. Some do not take the sinful condition of the human race and its need for salvation as seriously as they should.
So, to answer succinctly, the label "Christian" ranges wider than it really should.

We are all different and when reading something, such as the Bible, have different interpretations of it. Because of this, Christianity is is full of different sects and churches. Look into how Protestants and Lutherans come about....over disagreements in interpretations. Now there are even sects within each of these sects of Christianity.

You speak truth. We are to trust in Christ and follow his example in all things. The spirit of compromise is alive and attacking the church. At the same time there are those who become overzealous in legalities and practice hate toward those who follow sin. Jesus told us that those who falsely call upon his name will not be saved. He does not know such a person. Wisdom that comes from God reveals the truth of your heart and actions.

Many are lying to the pollsters to protect themselves from persecution. Of the people I know other than Pagans I have sought out to be friends with, about 20% are evangelical/radical right Chistian 50% "claim" to be Christian but haven't been inside a church in 20 years. The rest are honest enough to say they are not religious.

I don't know about the percentage but many Americans call themselves Christians because they are trying to convince themselves or someone else that they are. Many people are just ignorant about what a Christian is or about becoming one. Some people call themselves Christians because someone told them they were one. There are many reasons and unfortunately for many they are going to be told by Jesus to depart from Him because He NEVER knew them. What a shock it is going to be to many who call THEMSELVES Christian but were are not recognized by God as one and it will be too late then.

"christian" has almost become a blanket term for someone who merely believes in God and has a few of the core christian values, while only a small percentage of those who call themselves Christian actually adhere to all of the beliefs.

If you believe in Christ then you can call yourself Christian. People don't always "practice what they preach," which leads to the sinning.
