It's called civilization
We still have a few degenerates that kill each other and there are also people who snap.
When we reduced the number of death penalties and executions we also stopped "culling" the bad from the herd.
Prisoners are allowed to have conjugal visits a spawn more bad seeds. It's like Arabs having 50+ children. The just keep spreading and contaminating the human race.

I just pulled the 2013 Mortality rates from the CDC. I don't see firearms as a problem in the US. In 2013 there were 505 accidental and 33,131 criminal deaths by firearms. Out of all deaths that year this works out to;
Accidental - .00019 (less than 1/1000th of a percent) Majority being between ages 15-24 followed by 45-54.
Criminal - 1.2% by ages 24-33
Lets look at other ways people die;
Heart Disease alone is - 30%
Automotive Deaths - 2.8%
Suicide - 1.5% (evenly split between use of a firearm and other method)
Flu - 2.1%
Drowning - .0001
Fire - .0001
As you can see, death by firearms is not skewed in any way other than down compared to just a sampling of the data. The medical side of death far out weighs firearms and automobiles so why isn't there a push from everyone to cure disease?
Lately we've been a nation of 1%. 80% of the population has been focusing on problems that represent only 1% of the bigger picture. We need to push back and get these alarmists to focus and fix the problems that affect the majority of us.

There is no relationship between legal gun ownership and criminality. Most killing in the US is done by criminals accessing illegal firearms. Other killing with firearms is carried out by law enforcement and in the line of self defense by law abiding citizens. There are 280 million legally owner firearms in the US. There is no record of the number of illegally held guns. Three factors that fuel firearm related killing in the US are alcohol, drugs and inner city poverty.
People predisposed to killing, naturally or through the use of mind altering substances, kill. Guns are the method used. Knives are the #2 instrument used.
In Iraq there is sectarian violence aimed from one group at another who's preferred method of killing is not guns but the use of explosives (suicide, IEDs). The second form of killing is the interaction between the coalition forces and those who oppose them. In other words, there's war going on.

There is no war in the US. The motivation behind the killings in Iraq are ideological and based on power struggles for control of the country. No similar situation is present in the US.

The presence of guns is not the determining factor. It's peoples desire to live in an orderly society and their respect for the rights of other people.

Guns doesn't = killings. We have always been a well armed country. Crime wasn't always this way, and you used to be able to pick up a gun at a hardware store. Gun control never helps crime rates, it just helps criminals attack the unarmed.
