I learned how unselfish teenagers can be and that it is never too late to learn new skills. I volunteered for two years at the Marinelife center and helped care for injured sea turtles and other aquatic creatures. I was the supervisor for all the teens who worked on the weekends and we also conducted night tours on the beach to watch the females laying their eggs and indoor and outdoor tours of the facility during the day.

I am open to thoughts, ideas, beliefs and facts. There are many people on all ends that spew what they know are lies, or if they don't know are just taking the word of someone else rather then researching the information. For example the 'Man came from Monkey's' comment. It was never said by any scientist that we came from monkey's. We are theorized to have evolved from Ape's. Big difference. And there are many atheists who talk a lot of crap about the religious folk. I honestly can't think of an example off hand at the moment, but I know that I have, on more then one occasion, defended religious people against blatantly ignorant attacks.

My first volunteer work allowed me to overcome some serious prejudices I had built up inside of me, and I learned that they were just like me, this did bother some other people but I just kept going back, been volunteering for over 20 years now, love every minute of it, now I get to help patients overcome their prejudices by being that smiling face helping them and when your in need, you don't care where the help comes from.

I learned that I was so blessed in so many ways that others are not and that just an act of kindness can help make a person's life better.

What I learned about myself is that when serving others, I atleast almost completely forget myself. Others- They are grateful for the help, and glad to see teens helping with christmas food baskets.
What I am planning to do is collect a bunch of canned food and clothing for my local womens shelter (they help women and their children who are victims of domestic violence).

I learned what I wanted to do in my career someday, and what I most certainly did NOT want to do. I learned what I was good at and what I needed to work on.
