Tell your parents that there is a History that they can check if they feel like it and they can see every site that you go to, and promise them that if there is something on the list of sites that they don't like, then there will be a punishment that will be followed through with no matter what. Also, tell them that they can set blockers so that you can't get on certain sites and even maybe allow them to set a time limit that you can be on the computer every day so that you don't spend too much time on it, ummm, that's about it, just be really good and do what they tell you to do so that they feel that they can trust you. You never said how old you were, though?

I think you should see their side as well....it's not so much you, but if you go on-line to chat, they are thinking of the people you are chatting with. People can give too much information w/o even knowing it and their are A LOT of crazy people out there!!!! I think the only GOOD compromise, if it's trully for homework, that would make your parents feel at ease is to have the computer in your room w/o an internet connection. When you need something from the internet to come downstairs print it off the computer and take it back upstairs. I'm 80% positive it's not you that they don't trust. Sorry, but that's what goes through parents' minds.

As you say that you are a good kid i would suggest this.Say to your parents that if you had the computer in your room that parental controls would be on the computer so that you cant do "bad stuff"and that they could check what you are doing at regular times. Also say that you wouldn't be on there all night so that you wouldn't have time to do "bad stuff".if this doesn't work suggest that you get a cheap laptop for your room and keep the computer in the den-that way you can do your homework where your parents can see you so that you cant do "bad stuff". Talk with your parents and reason with them-say that you are not the sort of person that looks up "bad stuff"and show them this answer and explain what you are willing to do.once they see that you are genuine and how determined you are, your parents will hopefully let you do it.
Hope this helps- good luck xxxxx

Eh, first off, having your parents block the internet can get really annoying because you can't email your friends, etc. Trust me, it doesn't work.
What my parents did with me is they put the computer in my room, and every night they checked the computer's history to see where I had been. After a while, they stopped worrying about me going to some weird site, and they stopped checking.

So many kids have gotten into serious trouble by having a computer in their rooms where they aren't supervised...if they can fix it so you have no Internet access, fine; if not, forget it.
