Take your cat to the vet for a check up, let them know what you have already applied, and see what the vet says is the best thing to use for fleas. Some brands are not worth taking home.

We usually wait a day.
My mum has always used Bob Martin too, but I went to give our cat his wormer tonight, and noticed the packet says 'tapewormer.' Therefore it's not a broad spectrum wormer, which makes it, to be frank, a waste of money if it is used on its own.

It only gets rid of the two common tapeworms and another worm I haven't heard of which means it probably isn't one that's very common at all (I am an animal care student and know what different worms cats in the UK get).

There are two main types of roundworms and two tapeworms. Cats also commonly suffer from fleas and mites. treatment of fleas at the same time as worming is essential as fleas are an essential part of the lifecycle of tapeworms.

Roundworms are Toxocara cati and Toxocaris leonina. Look for these on the packet, as well as Dipylidium, and Taenia (tapeworms).

There are several products on the market which kill parasites, and you will need to buy two (as you've been doing) which together kill as many different types. I would say the best combination would be Stronghold and Bob martin.

Stronghold kills fleas, ear mites, and lice, hookworms and also kills roundworms, once of which (Toxocara Cati) is quite common. Then the Bob Martin will kill the Tapeworms.

Vets usually recommend panacur, which is good against roundworms but only kills one type of tapeworm.

The disadvantage of Stronghold is that it doesn't kill ticks- unlike Frontline, but depending on the area you live in this may not be a concern. Besides, they can easily be removed. I would say its better to fully protect your cat against the different types of worms than to buy frontline, or use bob martin on its own.

Had the same problem with my cats, the vets told us that bob martin is rubbish and doesn't work, I left it 24 hours before doing mine with frontline and within 24 hours of putting it on they had stopped scratching completely

Hi there,

I had the same dilemma when I once bought Bob Martin because our local vet was closed for 4 days and my poor cats were going out of their minds with a sudden flea infestation.

My vet did say to wait one month. I would call your vet and ask.

xx Emmie

Call and ask your vet! Then, ask him/her (?) if they carry "Promeris" for cats. It's something NEW that hasn't been on the market very long, so the fleas haven't become "immune" to it, like they have Frontline, Advantix, Biospot, and some of the others. With 13 cats, I've tried them all, and the new "Promeris" is the only one that worked. The vet should be able to tell you, since the new stuff doesn't use the same ingredients that the others do, so is usually safe to use earlier (for the 1st dose) than using one of the older ones. Good luck..................

When using products like Hartz ans Seargents, we recommend bathing the pet twice and then waiting 2 weeks before applying anything else. Consult your Vet and ask what they recommend.

I'd contact a Vet and ask.
It's good that you've got Frontline, the stuff in pet shops/ supermarkets doesn't work!
