It was always the Mother Goddess (Artemis) . Goes back to prehistoric man. They have found statues and trinkets carved in her figure (a large or pregnant woman) pre-dating anything on remote islands and all over the world. They all worshipped her in some way.
Each new religion that came along, changed it in their own way. Until modern religions started worshipping male deities.

Abraham was about 4000 years ago if that is who you mean,and before that itreally was pedominently a Sumerian religion based on the Tower of Babel. It was a "Mother Son" religion, much like Catholicism, and based on the story of a greaat hunter named Tamaz, who was killed by a wild boar, then raised to life by the weeping of the virgins who vowed their virginity for life. The Mother was Semineris, out of which the Sumerians originated.
