when i tell it to burn i get this...

this service can not be started, either because it is disabled, or because it has no enabled device associeated with it.

i have a cd/dvd rom. i have even used it to make ISO images with alchol120%. i can take movies and rip them to my computer as well. but now the first time i use windows media player it will not work. i can watch dvds but it wione let me burn or rip. i have no yet tried riping with WMP.

The reason is Windows Media Player is that a Media Player .
You need Software.
And, not just any software will do.
You must have Software that reads the the Folder, Compresses it and Writes it and Verfify it.
Note there are several out there that have differeing degree's of ease of use.
Roxio's Toast-7 or 8 will do what you want after the RIP.

If your CD drive is just a CD ROM / DVD ROM you can't burn CDs, although you should be able to rip. If your CD drive is a CDR/CDRW, make sure the drive is working properly and burning is enabled.

Youve copied them in the incorrect format the cds are large youve prob copied in mp3 or somthing else they must be in wav format, till you have a newish dvd that performs mp3 automobile CDS are technically previous so which you should attempt back and burn song as a wav format
