BJJ is already in Olympics, so is Judo, Katate, Boxing--i could go on
it will be an olympic sport--I first heard Sugar Ray Leonard talking about it and he is certain it will. He also said that when it happens it is the end of Boxing.
---So now what?

You people are so negative and idiotic. If and when it gets accepted into the Olympics, it will certainly have its own set of rules/regulations and also age limits--I really have to spell this thing out for you retards.

Since when is karate and BJJ in the Olympics? Anyway, MMA in the Olympics is close to imposible, even if it does make it it will be less than a shadow of it's fromer self, just look at Olympic boxing, if you can call it boxing that it
Olympics don't like fighting sports and it was hard enough getting Judo and TKD into it, if MMA goes into the Olympics it A. Will not be MMA as you know it B. Probably wont have any of the top MMA fighters you know in it and C. Could ruin MMA, although its not so likely it will ruin it to the extent it did TKD and Judo

Obviously the asker and the those that replied have no idea of how a sport gets olympic status.
The host country has to suggest it then the olympic commitee has to accept it.It has to be practiced world wide in every country to give everyone a shot .Even JAMAICA has a bob sled team which I find slightly hilarious.
Once a host country suggests one sport they can't at a later date suggest another.
So MMA in the olympics not likely it would also have to undergo a severe image change as it is it appears to be an art for thugs and bar fighters.

bjj and karate are not in the olympics and you do not want MMA or BJJ in the olympics if you enjoy the sports.
Look what happens to olympic fighting sports.
They have all been butchered to fit in with TV timings to get them over with some the higher rated sports like beach volleyball and swimming can get more airplay.
Boxing has lost several styles thanks to the 20 point mercy rule. No good being a big puncher, counter puncher, body hitter, infighter anymore, since you will get outscored before you can 'do your thing'
freestyle Wrestling is down to 2 or three short rounds, with less tecnhiques seen thanks to pushout rules (so you can win like a sumo now!).
Greco wrestling is down to one minute! (of doing nothing generally), then a a single lift attempt on the other guys lying there for you.
Fencing they don;t even use smallswords anymore, just flexible pieces of wire with pistol grips that wrap around the fingers, not even proper sword handles, so they can flick each other at high speed, five flicks wins the bout.
you want BJJ and MMA to turn into a 2 munute game too???

At present MMA couldn't be in the Olympics because the sport is basically "owned" by the UFC which is a profit making organization. That's not to say that there aren't other MMA promotions, but they are small-time compared to the UFC.
In order to become an Olympic sport, MMA would have to have a not for profit world sanctioning body with unified rules, which is unlikely to happen. The IOC is not going to help the UFC make more money, that's not their job.

karate and bjj arent in the olympics
olympics has: boxing, taekwondo, judo, and [freestyle/greco-roman]wrestling
now as of recognized sports and demos they've had karate, wushu, savate, and sambo.
anyways way way way back in the day(around 600BC) there was Pankration which was pretty much Greek MMA in the Olympics. it was not uncommon to see fights to the death. along with vale tudo fights and underground kumites fights in movies people kinda frown upon MMA. some people go as far as calling it human cockfighting or glorified street fighting. its not even legal in all state in the US yet. so needless to say it would be hard to imagine all these different countries coming to terms with it.(heck in sweden they didnt allow boxing at the olypmics since it was outlawed there). even then we would have to come up with a universal rules for MMA for instance UFC vs Pride rules: cage vs ring, with or without elbows/knee strikes, kicks to a ground opponent, etc...
so pretty much the mass public is going to think its too brutal so i think it will be sometime before you see it as an olympic sport

I'm not a big fan of the Olympics in general, but I think MMA would be an excellent addition.

There is no chance that will happen. They make the boxers wear headgear for crying out loud.
It is way too brutal for the olympics, sorry dude. Olympics are about competition and building relationships with other countries; not ripping their arm off and beating them with it.
Jujitsu alone would have a chance, but not MMA.

I have heard it discussed before on http://ninjashoes.net and most agree that its not possible since its very easy to get injured or too worn down to fight in tournamant format.

Tae Kwon Do has been removed as an 'exhibition sport'; they're gonna take out Roman/Greco Wrestling, and a lot of purists (like me) want Judo out of the Olympics.
But as far as I'm concerned they can include MMA into the Olympics all they want.
