Initially we had wanted to breed our two chihuahuas, but not till the 2nd heat at least. well now, that the female is in heat (1st), the male is soooo clingy, he whines when he is not by her, or sometimes he whines when hes by her but cant do anything to her ( she has panties on to prevent any penetration),
What i was wondering is, if we neuter him, and not spay her, will he still act this way in the future when she goes into heat. or will it stop. (personally i think he will still do it but not sure). OR visa versa.
we also have a female maltipoo. will we have the same problem with her. we would like to breed, the chihuahuas, and then eventually breed the maltipoo with a poodle. but now i'm not so sure if i want to do that, and have to put up with the males behavior. we have a pet store that would sell the puppies for us. and were really good friends with the owner.
I'm just really looking for insight as to what you all think.
thank you in advance.

I also know that there are dogs in animal shelters, i have adopted before, (my akita, and i love him to death. SRY about the earlier update, i'm just very frustrated, and none of the negativity was helping. Thank you Jenna C. you actually answered my question. Although I personally think that just because a dog isnt pedigree (registered) doesnt mean that they arent Great dogs.

while i disagree with some of these people saying that mixed dogs shouldnt have babies (mixed humans shouldnt have babies either??)
I do agree that you need to do alot more research, do some testing on your dogs before trying to breed them. You need to make sure none of them have any health problems prior to breeding.
Small dogs tend to have lots of problems with pregnancy and delivery. If you cannot afford or handle taking care of her and her puppies (which may be still born or die shortly after birth), you shouldnt be breeding any of the females.
My 1 year old mixed dog just had puppies and it was a scary time, even though everything went well, it could have been alot worse had she been smaller. I didnt breed her, it was unintentional. Puppies are cute but taking care of them and their mother is expensive and time-consuming.
If you're looking for a way to make money, there are plenty of other ways. It seems unfair to use your dog as a form of income like that. She's not asking you to rent out your uterus and squeeze out a bunch of babies.
If you insist on breeding: Research the dog breeds, talk to other breeders of those specific breeds, have your dogs checked to make sure they are perfectly healthy and ready to be breed.
In the meantime, I think there are forms of doggie birth control you can use that are available from your vet, you'd have to consult with them about it.
If you arent going to breed any of them, it would be best to spay the girls, and should probably neuter the boy too--I've seen it cause depression in my dogs before but it makes it so they dont develop other health problems in addition to preventing pregnancy and getting rid of male aggression.

your dogs may be great dogs, however that doesnt mean any of them should be bred. The "maltipoo" is a mutt.. if you bred her, you'd only be creating more mutts. There are plenty of cute little mutts in shelters and rescues waiting for homes.
There is no shortage of Chi's or Chi mixes either.
I just cannot agree with breeding for the sake of breeding when so many wonderful dogs are euthanized every day.
Spaying and neutering reduces the risk of certain types of cancer. An intact female is also at a very high risk for pyometra, a serious and deadly uterine infection. You completely emliminate the risk of pyo if you spay.
Small dogs also tend to need cecarians.. which can easily cost $1000-2000.. more if there are complications or it needs done at an ER vet in the middle of the night!

Spay/neuter them all. Chihuahua's often have very difficult pregancies. As for the maltipoo, it may be a great pet, but that doesn't mean she should be bred. Mutts should never intentionally be bred... and no dog should be bred before the age of 2 and before they have had all of the appropriate health testing.
Breeding is a big responsibility, and should only be done after extensive research. Personally, I don't think you're ready. Go to some dog shows, meet some breeders, and talk to them about it. Then make an informed and responsibly decision.

If you neuter him, and she comes into heat, he will still show interest, but won't freak like they tend to do. If you spay her then he won't be freaking at all.. If both girls are spayed, then he won't act like a food.. He will however still be likely to roam, lift his leg in the house, and be male dog aggressive. Still likely to develop testicular cancer and everything else.
If you want to stop the mess, the crying and whining, and everything else, spay and neuter them all. There are millions of chihuahuas, it's likely that you won't be able to find good homes, and won't be able to sell them for much anyhow. The Maltipoo is a mixed breed dog, and we are all doing our very best to put all those mixed breed breeders right out of business. Educating the publc in mixed breed dogs and how badly they are bred by those people who breed so called designer dogs ( MUTTS ) Probably by the time she is ready to be bred to the poodle, we will have successfully educated everyone and you will have no market for the mixed breed dogs.

yeh, neuter the dog. he shouldn't still be interested in your bitches, i have 5 dogs , 1 lurcher who's spayed, 1 cocker spaniel who's neutered and 3 cavs who will all have a litter, already had one litter, the cocker spaniel is in no way interested in my bitches, he was neutered 2 years ago.
id talk to another breeder before breeding your chihuahua.
i personally would not breed a non pedigree dog or a cross breed (usa,MIX!) because they are not registered. hope i helped x x x

All of the above. Not to be harsh, but you are a BYB and have no business breeding. NO good or responsible or reputable breeders would ever breed mutts.
ADD: Hun, I am really not being mean at all, I am being honest. I never questioned how much you love your dogs. I know you are a wonderful owner. I just believe if you breed these dogs you are being very irresponsible.
And temperment is one aspect, but so much more goes into breeding, you stating she has the BEST temperment is just the beginning... she will need health clearances and testing.
ADD2: Careful with your poor language, children frequent these boards. Shame on you!

Absolutely agree, ryhdian was by far the better singer, with more life, strength, variance and everything else. I'd say im shocked but phone votes that appeal to nationalties will always come up bias, without thought as to who they actually prefer, but simply for there own country.

Please get all of your dogs fixed. I know the idea of having puppies "sounds" great, but really it is not. There are so many dogs that are waiting in shelters or put to sleep every year - don't add to the unwanted pet populations. Look up the numbers online. It is incredibly sad.
Please be responsible - it is the best way to show that you love all of your animals.

Get him fixed. You don't need to be breeding dogs. Chihuahua or Maltipoo. Get all of them fixed! We have to many as it is. You are just adding to the animal population problem. People really should get their pets at the shelter.

Yes, if you neuter your male he won't feel utterly miserable while your female's in heat.
All these mean people here don't know who you are, do they. Check out this link and let them all know YOU are a responsible breeder and NOT a puppy pimp (BYB)
