35 minutes after I get out of bed my feet&legs swell so bad I can hardly walk..I'm on Hydroxyzide a water pill and they did work for 2-3 weeks but now I sit here and these feet do not belong to me..They are huge....I am getting scared that my liver may be swollen and that i could also be going thru some sort of low potassium side effects....I did have blood tests done and my salt is low so I have been fixing that part of it I eat 1-2 bananas every morning. Also I have many discs degenerated so for the pain I'm on 10 Dilaudids 8mg daily - High Blood Pressure - Anti Depressants - I also have Asthma And just finished a lung infection.. SO AS YOU CAN SEE I'M A MESS AND NEED SOMEONE TO MAYBE GIVE ME SOME ANSWERS THAT I HAVEN'T THOUGHT ABOUT.
Please try to help me.......I'm new to this site and others...I am very shy but thought I would try it out..Thank You for your time......symdot

I should have also added that this is the first time on water pills and the first week was an aggresive one with a different product..
Also with disc degeneration disease of 4 yrs I can hardly walk on my own now...It has progressed into my neck which gives extreme pain right down to the finger tips , so Tylenol works only for my Headaches. The rest is in my lower back and I now have both Sciatic Nerves being pinched all day long
so it is very hard for me to exercise. Before my disease I was dancing and shooting pool every w/e. I will not give up till I get at least an answer so that I can go outside walking again with my husband

man you sound like myself..your swelling in ankles is edma, witch is swelling your system is retaining water..you should be drinking alot of water..when your on hydrocloathiazide it depletes your potassium,,2 bananas might not be enough....your levels are too low..not to scare you..if your potassium is too low is danger zone...I'm not a doctor i do know alot of things..they happed to me..if you start feeling i mean real bad DO CALL THE SQUAD !! NO EXCUSES!!! your dehydrated i bet it..if you are than you do need to go....here's a way to check yourself..put you hand up like your holding something with space between your thumb and index finger.....pinch the skin on the top of your hand hold the skin up then let it go,,if it fall down fast then your hydrated....if the skin goes down slow and you hand turns a whitish color....then you could be on the edge of dehydration...because if your salt is low then so would everything will be out of wack!!!!!!!! if you do drink something and decide not to go toER..then drink Gatorade if you can get it ...dont drink it fast drink 12 Oz's every 20- 30 min so you can absorb it better......IF IT WAS ME I WOULD GO TO E.R. THEY CAN TREAT YOU WITH IV,ES WERE FLUIDS GO IN SLOW...THIS CAN ALSO MESS YOUR KIDNEYS UP...BECAUSE OF THE POTASSIUM LEVEL...GOOD LUCK MAN....

You have major health problems and one seems to have started off the other. I have RA but no matter how bad the pain is I stay on a low fat diet and keep exercising. Many people with arthritis get depressed then sit back and do nothing, which then adds many other health problems. If you are over weight you need to loose it asap. The swollen feet is due to the lymphatic system not draining and the lymphatic system like the blood system runs though out the body but does NOT have a pump, heart, so relies on the circulating blood to allow it to drain. If you are not doing exercise, then the blood is not circulating efficiently and the lymphatic system is not draining, therefore you are building up toxins. That leads to, well water pills and it really is a downhill spiral from their. Good Luck

just because your blood test tells you your sodium is low, does not mean you should increase your sodium intake. Your cells might be shifting the sodium into the cell where it is not measured on a blood test. It sounds like your increase in sodium intake is causing water retention. When you stand up gravity pulls the excess water to your feet and legs. You also probably need a more aggressive diuretic.
Your use of dilaudid troubles me at these levels, haveyou tried facet joint injections?
Your Dr. or Nurse Practitioner should be taking the time to answer these questions for you. If they don't have the time, I sugest you find someone who will take the time.

I went thru the same thing w/ my first pregnancy! Nothing was wrong w/ me either! I tried everything I could think of to get the swelling to go down, but nothing worked! I couldn't even wear shoes anymore...all I could wear was flip-flops! All I can say is to try and not eat as much salt and stuff! And if you have to, just wear flip-flops!! Sorry I couldn't help more, but I do know what you are going thru! Oh, and don't worry, when you have the baby, the swelling WILL go down!! It took me about a month to actually have feet & ankles again, but it does get better!!

Dilaudid??? Have you considered just plain ol' Tylenol? Your liver would not contribute to your edema. Dependent edema, results from inactivity, poor cardiac perfusion, low blood pressure, kidney malfunction, just to name a few. We all need sodium, (salt), potassium, and calcium, for the successful dynamic called an "action potential" to happen. When these little potentials happen in groups, it results in successful activity. Like wanting a cup of coffee, going to the cupboard to get the coffee, loading it in the coffee maker, pushing the button, and finally, getting that cup of coffee. All these motions require sequentially correct action potentials. So, instead of asking us, how about going to a good doc, and get his diagnosis.

hydrochlorathorazide is an effective diuretic, but you may need a higher dose. I take benicar for my blood pressure, but still have to take extra hctz for the swelling. Call your doctor on Monday; the swelling may be due to your blood pressure medicine not working effectively enough. And .... as much as I hate to admit it - reducing salt intake helps, too.

Diabetes is usually treated through a combination of diet (low sugar), exercise and medications/insulin. Milder cases can be controlled with just diet an/or exercise while more severe cases require meds or insulin as well.
