MS Office for Mac has been around since 1987
Currently there is Office for Mac 2004
Apple makes iWork08 which is better and is compatible with MS Office for Mac.

yes you can buy microsoft office 2004 for $150, but they are coming out with office 2008 soon for mac. If you saved a file in microsoft word and used microsoft word on another computer to open it, if you used the same program on the mac that you use on the PC the document will open

Macbooks come with a TRIAL of microsoft office. To buy the full version is somewhere around $300. I use iWorks, which has a word processing program called Pages, and there is an export function in there that lets you save/export documents as .doc (Word format). It's no problem sending it to a PC (ie to print, like I do for school).

Absolutely! Mac has been running office software for a very long time. To your other question, it will work just fine.

But being the open-source fan I am I must give you another option. I am not sure if you have heard about something called Open Office. It is just like Windows Office, but unlike windows office which costs $500+, open office costs $0. Open office comes with an equivalent to Word, Excel, Publisher, and even more! Oh, and it does run on all mac, windows, linux, and solaris platforms.

Hope I helped!
