Shouldn't public policy be based on reality and not the minority of people who care about a pledge to god about not having sex?

You do know that abstinence programs are a secular approach. The Christian approach is celibacy, which takes into account the persons spiritual welfare. Abstinance programs do not have anything to do with religion. It is what it suggests, abstaining from sex, which by the way is the only 100% effective way to avoid STD's and unwanted pregnancy's. On top of that, it keeps girls in particular out of suicide tendencies.

If what appears on the Maury show was the NORM than nobody would bother to watch the show.

Abstinence ... and.or monogamy does work ... if people are properly educated to understand the benefits.

I would bet that many of those on Maury also practiced contraception ... and that obviously did not work either.

Anyone who considers ANY television show an accurate reflection of society (or reality) needs to do a personal reality check.

Why are you wasting your time watching a show like Maury, anyway?

Are you saying that the women on Maury don't know who the father is because they were abstinent? I don't think I've seen that program!

I am conservative fiscally, but not socially. Abstinence does not work.

What works is comprehensive sex ed. Which would include the encouragement of the use of condoms and the proper way to use them. It would also include that while abstinence is the only 100% way to prevent preganancy and the spread of disease, condom use is a close second.

It is proven that good sex ed actually causes teens to wait longer (until 18) and use protection more frequently. Teen pregnancy rates are much lower in places like Germany where tis kind of sex ed is common place and condoms are available EVERYWHERE.

The producers of the Maury show are the ones funding the abstinence only movement. You've just uncovered the greatest conspiracy theory since the DaVinci code!

Brava! Brava! Bravisima! lol.

Abstinence has nothing to do with God
It's a personal choice not to have sex

You keep asking questions about this, I'm wondering if you know what abstinence means.

Abstinence does work. If those ladies used it, they would not be on the Maury show.

I think it's safe to say that abstinence didn't work for those women because they didn't practice it.

For abstinence to work, you can't indulge in what your abstaining from.

Abstinence works 100% of the time! If you do it. (or don't do it, rather!)

Is it realistic? Probably not.
