Do you pay a sales and use tax on grocery food items? and if so, how much is the sales and use tax for grocery food item where you live?

It depends on the state. In PA, groceries aren't taxable, although some items like soda are, at 6%. In some areas of PA there is an additional 1% county tax, but not where I live.

Grocery food purchases in the state are not taxable. Any non grocery items are taxable at the rate of 6%.

Sales tax is paid on non-food items like laundry detergent, paper items, etc. In major California cities, it is 7.75%.
