It can be quite depressing and just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat? I wouldn't trade being a stay at home mom for anything but being tight on money stinks, especially around xmas. Hubby and I aren't getting each other anything. Just a few things for our son. My husband is a teacher so living on one teacher's salary is tough.

Good for you Alikat but I rather be at home and poor. Jeez...don't get so defensive.

Oh girl, I am right there with you!

I hate having no extra spending money, but I love staying home with my kids. And right now, with Xmas here, spending money would be a blessing! I just try to remind myself to be grateful that my husband makes enough to pay the bills and put food on our table.

PS - My husband and I haven't given each other a gift in years, Xmas, birthday, anniversary etc. I guess that will have to wait to all my kids are in school and I get a part time job (while they are in school). This will be in another 5 years since I'm pregnant now!

Good luck to you!

You can do what other stay at home moms do, like I did. I got a nanny job so I could take my son with me. It gave me extra money to pay bills, buy presents, etc. We had a really nice Christmas last year. Unfortunately this year is hard because hubby has been laid off since June and his unemployment runs out the end of Dec, but I buy little things all year long and put them away so when birthdays, anniversary, Christmas come along I just dig into my stash. I also save the nice boxes and bags from Christmas and birthdays to re-use, or buy ones at the $ store.
Also, what I did was take a graveyard job so hubby could be home at night, and I have been working 3 day jobs until he can find something else.

i know what ya mean, my hubby works his butt off so i can be a sahm and it gets hard. luckily our car note for somereason wasnt due in nov, it skipped a month (i did all my homework and i cant figure out how we got so lucky, i have faith in god and if we really need something he always comes through!) so it gave us enough to have a good xmas, well maybe not the best but a less stressfull one. me and 2 of my boys have oct b-days and if it wasnt for us saving our recycling and turning it in i dont know what we would have been able to buy them. i mean they would have got presents but i would have just not paid a bill or 2, this way everthign got taken care of. i would rather pinch pennies and be a 100% full time always available mom than have a lil more money and not be here for my kids 24/7.
i believe they turn out how you raise them, we have 3 boys and im 10 weeks preg so i have alot of work to do.

I am a SWM. A single working mom. So I don't have the luxury of staying home with my son. But considering that daycare is only $700 per month and I make $5000 after taxes being a nurse, it is much more feasible to be working. Money is tight yes, but not so tight that we will have a crappy xmas.
