Is there anything I can add to take away some of the hotness? I've heard that you can add a potato to stuff if it is too salty will this work for spiciness also?

Yes, adding ingredients like potatoes will take away from the spiciness. You might also try sugar. If all else fails, keep a piece of bread or tortilla handy, it'll take the edge off better than a cold drink. Good luck.

Yeah, try putting a raw potato in your soup and discard once it's cooked and absorbed the spices or add a little cream or milk.
