What can happen? I don't know what WILL happen but I can tell you what COULD happen. Either the UTI will resolve itself or it will worsen with complications. If you have an infection, and that hasn't even been established yet, it can spread throughout your entire urinary tract. But I doubt you could stand the pain long enough for this to happen.
Going or not going to the doctor is your decision. But don't listen to anyone who tells you that you don't NEED to be seen by a doctor. No OTC stuff like AZO and no amount of cranberry juice or water will treat an existing infection. It's already been said that AZO (and cranberry products) can alleviate the symptoms but these are not antibiotics and will not and cannot treat infection. You may feel better temporarily (and I do mean temporarily) but the unaddressed infection will still be there and getting worse by the day.
From this health care provider's standpoint, you first need a diagnosis and you can't get that from anyone other than a licensed provider, an MD, DO, NP or PA. After that, what you choose to do about your diagnosis is your affair.

You should go to a doctor if you're suspicious of any UTI. Not only are you at risk to the possibility of prolonged complications but any partners that you might have or will be having will also be at risk....so it's not a question of what will happen to you but also what would become of them if you didn't go. After all, the I in UTI stands for infection, which means its contagious.

If it is a uti, it will continue to worsen until you start on antibiotics. There is an over-the-counter medication that helps with the symptoms ... AZO Standard. It is not a cure, but it does help with the pain, burning, and urgency associated with a uti.
God bless and good luck!

Ultimately you could end up with a bladder or kidney infection, which can be deadly if not treated. Go to the doctor now and get some antibiotics. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.
