I usually watch tv with two ice packs, one on each lower stomach area, take two aleves and drink some iced tea or coffee..... the ice packs kind of freeze the pain away.... I used to use heating pads but the dr told me that that it actually feels better to use ice.... it works great considering I have debilitating cramps and cant move the first day!!!

If they are very bad and persistent, eg, causing diarrhea and incapacitation, she needs to see a gyne Dr. A prescription for Naproxen will help eliminate the problem. What is going on is the body is producing too much prosteglandin. Prosteglandin is a hormone that causes contractions. This is also what causes the diarrhea, the contractions acting on the colon. Naproxen binds to the prost. hormone binding sites, and stops this cycle. If they are not as bad as that, she can also try this. BEFORE her period starts, take 2 ibuprofen, 3 times a day. Continue with this until the second day of the period. Ibuprofen also binds to the sites. By stopping the cycle of hormone binding, she probably be able to stop medications after some time.

Walk it off, or keep hot/warm compresses on the area of the cramp.

Thank God, I'm done with all that, but what worked for me was to do touch your toes exercises. Also taking Advil was very helpful.
