Take her to the vet and ask your VET these questions. This is the problem with backyard breeders...you breed a dog without knowing what you're doing...because you think your dog is sooooo cute everyone else will want one or to make some $$ off your poor doggie. When the vet gives you her due date, set an appt with him for an emergency c-section in case she has trouble giving birth, and after the puppies are born, make another appointment to have her and all of the puppies spayed and neutered.

A pregnant dog is not a laughing matter. There are thousands of unwanted dogs in the world; bringing more into the world is irresponsible if you don't know what you're doing. Sorry to be so blunt, but I volunteer for a rescue group - I see the aftermath of backyard breeding:(

I have had several chihs and none have had sections. One had oxytocin shots to help labor. They don't "often" or even "regularly" need sections. Simply not true.

You should see a vet. I have most of my moms x-rayed before birth just to make sure there is a good number of puppies. If it is a Mom that has had more than one litter you might be able to skip the x-ray if you are pretty sure it is a good size litter. Your vet can help you estimate the date.

I am a vet technician and can tell you for a fact that a lot CORRECTLY BRED Chihuahuas need c-sections! No responsible Chi breeder would say otherwise. If they conform to the standard, a lot females have trouble...think about it....CORRECTLY bred Chis should not weigh more than 6 pounds, male or female, andtheir heads should be "dome shaped" - that in and of itself can cause problems with the birthing proces. Chi'sthat whelp naturally are almost always oversized.

Her breast will fill out and maybe leak a milky liquid and she will start to hunt a nesting place. Be sure you have already prepared her a nice area, with some old clothes or rags. Have extra towels on hand and ready....in case you have to help.

She is small and if it is her first litter she may not know what to do. Have you vet notified that she is getting near so he can check her and be sure she is OK. If you do not provide her with a place she likes she will have them some where else and it might not be a place you like.

Why aren't you sure? Has she seen the vet? Do you know how many puppies to expect? Do you know that she's actually really pregnant and not undergoing a false pregnancy?

Did you have her screened for vWD so you know whether or not she can take giving birth? Have you scheduled a c-section date with your vet in case something goes wrong and the pups are too big to birth naturally?

Have you done genetic screening of the mom and dad to make sure that neither had an STD?

How much longer than 2 months has she been pregnant? Do you even know what the normal gestational period for a dog - ANY dog - is?

And you think this is funny. That's the sickest thing of all.

LOL back at ya.

What's so funny? You should know when she is due, and you should know what to watch for. What have you been doing for the last 2 months. Not learning about Labor that's for sure. Read a few books, search online. You'll find some valuable information. If not, there is always your vet.

I have noticed that people that wait til the last minute to wonder about their dog's impending litter, have problems, then they come back here and blame everyone for their problems. You should take this into your own hands and learn what you need to do. Most people here don't know how to whelp a litter, let alone what you watch for when your dog is ready to deliver.

this would not handle your question approximately culling, different than..that's only too quickly to inform. If the Catahoulas are of the 'patchwork' development, they might proceed to advance pigmentation for countless weeks, and could no longer be as white as they seem. ( only as Dalmatians advance spots as they advance) they might or won't finally end up as 'intense white'. by employing the time that they are 8 weeks previous, the breeder would be attentive to if there are any deaf or blind doggies. in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, the apparently wholesome EW domestic dogs ought to flow to residences that have an expertise that there is a small danger of demodex or different pores and skin issues. till the two mothers and dads are double merle, then there is little concern over the different genetic themes, alongside with intestinal issues. The breeder ought to counsel with an experienced Catahoula mentor to learn greater with reference to the information. ( having pedigree in hand)

Why are you only just asking this now? Should you not have done your homework before mating your dog?

If you haven't already I would talk to your vet as Chihuahua's often need to have cesarean sections.

As well as the birth what about post natal care?

There is a good book called "The book of the *****" (the word police may ***** out the word ***** as in female dog). It should be very useful but you really needed to read it 1st!

Well, you could take her to the vet. That might be a good idea. In fact, you'd better read up because for all we know, she could be in labor right now!

There are many, many signs. I suggest calling a vet and explaining your predicament. Please, for the love of your dog, get her spayed after this. Dams die in whelp all the time. It's no laughing matter.
