My friend has a person staying with them. That person has a 4 week old black puppy that is infested with fleas and he won't wash it and won't let me wash it. I just feel terrible that the dog has to suffer so much.

Get some tweezers and a bowl of soapy water. Pluck those fleas off that poor puppy by hand. Put the fleas in the soapy water.

Fleas will congregate on the head a lot.

This really angers me. This puppy could die of flea anemia. A bath won't do it. The fleas HAVE to come off. Do this several times a day.

Please don't let this continue. This puppy's life is at stake.

Where is this guy... lemme at 'em:)

Edit Note: I don't advise bathing the pup. I would advise taking to a vet and also getting a flea comb and using it!

Really, this is life threatening...

Yes You Can. Wash Away! Just Make Sure You Get The Shampoo Around The Neck So The Fleas Don't Run Up On Puppies Head!

Good Luck With Your Friend's Puppie!

It seems that your friend is going to have more than just a person staying with her. And more than just the dog being infested with flees if she doesn't put her foot down. Yes the puppy can have a bath( A BATH WILL NOT BE ENOUGH!!!) but it would be A LOT BETTER if the puppy were taken to the vet, given a check up( if it has flees it probably as other parasites also which could kill the dog eventually). The vet can recommend different flee and tick control methods that would be right for that particular puppy.
Also it is EXTREMELY HARD to get rid of an infestation of flees in your house and can be very expensive. Your friend might have to shell out more than a thousand dollars after it's all said and done. Been there done that, got the t-shirt and the trophy too. The cost of care up front is far less than the cost of cleaning up the mess in the end.

Wash the dog. the fleas can KILL a puppy. As your =vet is he has something safe to put on them...depends on where their health is now. Look at their gums and they should be very pink...if they are not pink and white they are in serious distress already. The the fleas off and do it NOW. Besides the fleas will infest the house and carpet. Wash the puppies treat the fleas with some PUPPY stuff and towel and blow dry them. That can be some safely and it's better than letting them die.
Does he also have the mother??This puppy need to be with Mom for at least 2 months.

The four week old puppy should be with its mother and littermates -- it will likely die.. sorry but that is just the way it is... puppies that young that are infested with external parasites are likely filled with internal ones and also will be fed and cared for improperly and end up dehydrating fast and simply fading. You can wash it over the sink with slightly warm (tepid really as baby skin burns easily but chilling can kill the pup quickly) - a little Palmolive dish soap (couple of drops) suds up and left on the pup (be sure the room is WARM as in 90+ degrees - hot bathrooms are good) let the suds stay a minute and you will see dead fleas... rinse off well with the tepid water and dry thoroughly = do not take the pup out of the hot room for a while as it needs to be warm, really warm... it needs to be with its mother still nursing but hey, that isn't likely going to happen so at least you can try this so the fleas don't drain it dry of blood... I am sorry, seen too many puppies brought to me just like this that I suffered over and watched die... ignorant bybers that get rid of puppies too soon because the mommy isn't cleaning up after them any more and the might actually have to spend a buck to feed them or keep care of them are responsible for this sort of thing...

Well fleas can kill such a young puppy, and will also likely give the puppy tapeworm. Something needs to be done. Bathing isn't the best thing, and you would have to be careful what you used to bath him, and you would need to make sure that he was totally dry and not at all in a draft or cool area.. You should take the puppy to the vet and get him taken care of properly.
I would worry about having such a young puppy out in public without vaccinations at all.. How come this person even has such a young puppy? Pit bull?? Many of those breeders tend to allow the puppies to go to homes very very early. Not all, and certainly not the good ones, but plenty of them do.

Contact a vet and find out what should be used on a 4 week old puppy, who by the way is too young to be taken from it's mother.
Advise your friend that these fleas can cause anemia, as they feed off of the dogs blood. which can kill a puppy (or dog) with heavy infestation.

that puppy should not be away from its mother. Unless she died i would be strongly urging that person to give it back for another month. As far as treatments on a dog that young goes, get advice from the vet.

To answer your question, yes you can give a 4 week old dog a bath- REGULAR bath not flea bath(without veterinary advice). To help with fleas, use either tea tree oil shampoo or Dial hand soap. Both make the fur very slippery and fleas have a hard time staying on the dog. This will not kill them, just help remove them from the dog. They will come back tho, from reinfestation and when the eggs hatch.

why do they have a 4 week old puppy!!! hope its with its mum too. you can wash it with baby shampoo, but if they d-flea it don't wash 2 days before or 2 days after, or use a nit comb, if they bought that puppy it should still be with its litter for at least another month. puppy's brains aren't even fully developed until 10-12 weeks. makes me SO sad that puppy's SO young are sold for profit.

Yes, you can bathe a puppy. The mother would. Use a warm wash cloth, a lice comb and some Vaseline to put the fleas in so they won't jump on you or get loose in the house.
