I heard about changes from analog signals to digital signals and how the conversion will be complete by Feb 2009. How will this affect TV watchers who prefer Network Television?

Depends on what channel

Depending on your TV, you have three options:

1. You bought your TV new from a store after Mar. 1, 2007:

No worries--you are guaranteed to have a digital TV, and you can continue to watch TV in Feb. 2009 (when the signals go digital) without changing anything in your setup.

2. Your TV has a label saying "Digital" or "DTV" or "HDTV":

Again, you have a digital TV and will be able to receive the new digital signal in Feb. 2009--no need for you to change anything.

3. Your TV is older than 1) and doesn't have the labels in 2):

You most likely have an analog-only TV. You can either buy a new TV (all TVs in stores now are digital-capable), or buy a converter box that will allow your analog TV to receive digital signals.

If you go with the converter box, the NTIA (a federal government agency) is offering free coupons good for $40 off the price of a converter box--order your coupon here:

(This is purely my guess, but I believe the $40-off coupon will pay the whole cost of the converter box, effectively making the box free.)

No it will not change what you pay. After the change over in area where you live, you will still be able to watch all the channels you can at present watch free and you will be able to watch other free channels as well, which are currently available to those with Freeview. But you will still need to pay your TV licence and if you want to increase the number of channels you can watch such as getting Sky Sport, you can still do so by getting a satellite dish and taking out a Sky subscription. But that is entirely voluntary.

Yes.

You will need a converter box to convert the new digital signal to an analog one, if you are using an older NTSC TV and receiving your signal OTA (over the air) with an antenna.

The US federal government will be issuing vouchers to purchase these converters, that will cover most if not all of the price. They will be issuing 2 vouchers per household.

Us non-cablers have nothing to worry about.

In order to watch these stations after that time, whether you have cable dish or antenna, you will need a digital converter box to watch all of them, even network stations.

you will need to buy a new tv if you do not already have one that is compatible with the new digital hi-def signal. IT is not a matter of a subscription, it is the actual TV. All services will be on this, its the hardware that you need.

Yes, but only with a digital reciever... its like bunny ears but reads digital signals... although your T.V. MUST be 1080i compatible...

Bunny ears recieve analog signal, thats why they won't work...

Cause alot of people can't afford cable or satalite: i used to be one of them)

i don't think they will....

but... if you get the lowest pacage of dish, it's like 20 dollars a month, and u get 40 channels or somthing like that... but i think u gotta add 5 dollars for local channels....

i hope that's not true!

Yes, but you will need a digital box... or something like that. I'm still learning about that myself. =)
