Man, I love this time of year. We put the lights on the house this weekend and will buy our solstice tree next weekend. It's always fun to go to Target too and see everyone in a debting frenzy trying to buy Christmas love. "Ha ha! I'm just here to buy paper towels!"
When the sun comes up at 8am and it's pitch black outside at 4:30pm, the winter solstice is truly a day of celebration!! Hooray!! The days start getting longer!!!!!!!
Oh, and for the previous poster, it's widely recognized by most historians who know anything about anything that Jesus was NOT born in December. Christmas was a holiday created by the church to try to steal some of the pagans' joy.

I am ready for Yule, Which happens on the winter solstice and goes through Christmas as it lasts for 12 glorious nights! December 20-31
Excerpt from the Asatru Alliance website for reference enjoy! :)
Yule 21 - Mother Night: As the night before the Winter Solstice, this is the time when the New Year is born. We honor the beginning of Sunnas return and the breaking of Winter’s spell. This is a time to honor Thor and Freyr, celebrate by Blot, Sumbel, and High Feast. Burn a Yule Log and jump the flames for luck and purification.
Yule 22 - High Feast of Yule - Beginning of Runic Year - Sacred to Thorr and Freyr
Yule 31 - Twelfth Night: This culminates the traditional twelve days of Yule. Each day of which is a month of the preceding year in miniature. Reflect on the past year. Take stock and lay a course for the future. Make New Years resolutions in the old way by swearing your oath on Freyr’s boar or on your Hammer.

You had it right by saying Winter Solstice. And after that comes.....Yuletide...Jesus was never born in December. The Winter Solstice is the suns birthday, not that sons birthday.

Winter solstice is just another name for the shortest day of the year... Dec. 21st. Summer solstice is June 21st, longest day of the year.
Christmas, Dec. 25th, is considered Jesus' birthday, as He was said to be born on the 25th day of the Hebrew month of Kislev, which falls around what we know as December.
We also celebrate my nephew's birthday in December. We don't mistake his birthday for Winter solstice, either.

Oh you mean Yule? Of course I am! I got the tree and the wreath all ready to go!! I have non denominational wrapping paper. Generic greeting cards (recycled paper) and have purged my home of anything joyous.
