I don't know what's wrong with it, I got the PS3 yesterday, and the game that currently isn't working is Madden '08. In the PS3 manual, it says that you CAN'T play PS2 games, but from other sources, I think I should be able to.

Help is appreciated.

The 40GB version is not backwards compatible with PS2 games. Nothing that you can do to change that, that means no modding, downloading some illegal software, or anything like that. I'd recommend buying a PS2 instead of spending even more on a backwards compatible PS3. The PS2 only costs $100.

If you got the 40GB it can't play PS2 games. If you got another version of the PS3 you need to try more than one game. Not all PS2 games work even on the backwards compatible one.

You can buy a bigger hard drive if you want it even tells you how to fit one on the playstation website. If you mean buy more GB to allow you to play PS2 games then that won't work. The 60GB and 20GB had the Emotion Engine chip built in to play PS2 games and the 80GB has software to play PS2 games but the 40GB has neither of these.

well I think that you got the 40GB version of the PS3, that one is not able to play PS2 games. If you got the 60GB or 80GB version then there is a problem with it, first try to download the updates and try again, if that does not work either return it or call tech support.

I do think however that you got the 40GB version that is not backwards compatible.

It's probably because you got the 40GB PS3. The 40GB PS3 is the only PS3 that cannot play PS2 games, but it can play PS1 games. All of the other PS3's are backward compatible with both PS1 and PS2 games.

40gb cant play ps2 games. its better to try to find a 60gb because it has the emotion chip and plays ps2 better than the 80gb which uses software instead to play ps2 games.really though the 80gb is fine.

PS2 can play games from PS1
As i know (from magazines and others sources) PS3 can play titles from both previous versions of PS.
Make sure the game you are trying to play is not a copy.
