Crate train it. Give it a big rawhide bone while in the crate.

Since you said Dog can I assume it is not a puppy??? Puppies like to chew and they are teething and you need to provide them with items that they can chew on.
To break this habbit will take some attention on your part.
First be sure you are going on good power walks with your dog. You lead ....the dog is beside you, you go through the door fist (you are the alpha) Put dog in sit and when he is calm you start the walk. If he pulls ahead, pull up immeditely on the leach and put him in a sit until he calms and you start the walk again. You can also reverse direction so that you are in the lead. The goal is for you to become pack leader and he is a followers. It could take several walks to establish the pattern.
Now when he heads for something that he CANNOT chew, make an abrupt noise, that is sharp and easy for you to do. It can be a grunt or a shush noise. When he heads for the no-no items, get between him and it and establish a border and make the noise and block him. You need to really watch him and do this over and over and be firm. If his nono chew is a shoe. Put the shoe near him and when he reaches for it make the noise and put your hand out as if to block him. don't yell, screem, or repeat a command.don't even use his name; Just the noise and the hand to block. Put more than one items on the floor and block him from them with the noise and the hand. He needs to know those are your items and not his. Leave the items in the floor and walk away but watch him; if he goes for them come back with the noise and the hand to block. He will not learn totally in one session but he will get the point. Every time you see him go for something that is not his, make the noise and block him.
An excellent web site for training is http://www.cesarmillaninc.com/

Does anyone watch the TV show named"At the end of my leash"
The methods are really great that this man shows pet owners.
Speaking of chewing things my 9mth old ShihTzu ,chewed my coffee table legs last week, she has toys to chew on, but this table was a nice soft wood pine, and i guess she was bored that day too, although she gets 2 walks per day.We scolded her and gave her a chew toy,she knew she did wrong and slinked into the kitchen stayed behaved all day after that lol.

Make sure your dog has plenty of his own things to chew on. (Tough chew toys last longer.) Pick up Bitter Yuck spray at Petco, Petsmart, etc to spray on things like furniture and cabinets. Make sure there's not stuff lying all over your house or you're just asking for it to be destroyed. Crate your dog while you're gone if necessary, and make sure you teach him "leave it" and "drop it" and don't let him play with your things when you're around. He doesn't know the difference between fetching your shoes and claiming them.

supervision
get a bucket/basket or something and fill it with DOG TOYS ,, leave it where the dog can easily get to it.. when the dog chews something innapropriate bring it over to his basket and show him HIS toys... it won't take more than a day for the dog to automatically go rummaging thru the basket for something to chew on..

I give my dog a Kong toy to play with. She plays with that now instead of licking the things off the ground. Maybe your dog is suffering from separation anxiety. Someone I knew was never home and her dog ate up the carpet and died :|.

Give them things of their own things to chew on, like rawhides, toys, etc. You could also try spraying whatever it is they're chewing on with one of those sprays that most dogs don't like the smell/taste of.
