I just had 4 stitches put in my thumb and the pain is throbbing, I called the dr. and they just say to take ibuprofen or tylenol, but it doesn't have much effect.

Try elevating your hand...hold it UP...or prop it on a pillow. You can also use an ice bag off and on, few minutes at a time. Keep your mind busy...watch a good movie or read, whatevthey are not going to prescribe narcotic pain meds for this. You cannot expect to be pain freee, but youshould be more comfortable if you avois having your thumb below the level of your heart.

Because they usually anesthetize the area before putting the stitches in and that takes time to wear off. However the throbbing is the blood rushing to the damaged area, as the body's immune system keeps a check to make sure their are no bugs trying to get in. Good Luck
