After loading a magazine for the first time (slide is fully forward), pulling the slide back and releasing, my Glock 17 jams every time. If I insert the magazine with the slide locked back and release the slide stop lever, it works smoothly like a charm. This seems too simple to be user error (and, yes, I consulted the user's manual just to be sure) but is this possible? This is a very new handgun, probably fewer than 1,000 rounds through it to date. Thanks!

First step:
Make sure you are fully pulling the slide rearward in one swift motion. Also, when you manually cycle the slide, make sure to pull it fully to the rear (I know this sounds obvious, but my spouse frequently would not bring the slide all the way rearward tot he stops -- took some head scratching to figure this out, but we got it figured out). When the slide is all the way rearward, keep moving your hand rearward as you let go of the slide so the full force of the recoil spring carries the slide forward.

Second:
What type of ammo are you using? Do you experience any jams (other than when you are manually cycling the slide?)? Does this happen with all of your magazines? With all types of ammo?

Third:
If you continue to have problems or can't get a suitable answer here, find a reputable local gun shop (preferrably one with a range) to discuss this with. I say preferrably with a range as most places frown on patrons chambering rounds unless in a controlled environment.

Best of luck!

What type of jams? Have the first 600 been fired without problem? Are you locking your wrist to insure proper function? If you put the 1st 600 without problem then it may need cleaning but I doubt it. If these are the first 100 you've fired you may be limp wristing. Has ammo been same brand or were these last ones a different brand? Are you seating the mags correctly? May need cleaning or at least a little oil on the rail guides.

David beat me. LOL. He hit the nail on the head. I use to have the same problem. It was my release of the slide that caused the jamming. Not anymore.
