Moissanite is a fake diamond. However, it is a good quality-made fake.
My opinion is that if you do not want a real diamond (or if it does not matter to you) then this is an excellent choice if you do not want to go down the road of a semi-precious stone.

Personally i don't get it. They are supposed to have a higher sparkle than a diamond (and they do) and are relatively just as hard.
But if I was going for a fake I would just do a high end CZ or something like a white sapphire if colored stones aren't your thing.
If you are replacing later with real why spend so much extra for the fake?
If you aren't a white sapphire has more value than moissanite for a cheaper price.

I think it's actually kinda cool, but then again, I'm a rock geek. It actually does exist as a natural mineral, but is very rare, only in meteorites. The gems are grown in the lab, like many other gems you see in the store actually. I just think they have an interesting history and they do sparkle a lot! Don't get me wrong, I like diamonds too, but in my opinion moissanite is just fine for engagement rings or any other jewelry for that matter.

I would rather have a tiny real diamond than a large fake diamond.
I have a .45 carat diamond and I love it. It's small, but not too small. No one thinks it's fake and I always get compliments on it's "sparkliness".

Better to go with a cz than a moissanite.
You can get diamonds and gold for a few hundred dollars -

sure, go ahead. no, i didnt mean that. fake diamonds are great for any jewelry at all except for engagement and wedding rings. there is no comparison to a real diamond in an engagement ring. but other than that, do as you wish.
