It absolutely is not unacceptable.
One of the best and most effective platoon leaders we had in Afghanistan, was a LT Hussein, for some of the reasons you described. I have a good friend, a medic, Jordanian named Hossein, in my unit. The people answering here that assume that Soldiers are small minded and bigoted would be funny if it weren't so serious. They have no experience of the miltiary, and their opinions maybe safely discounted.
In addition, while you could find yourself fighting Arabs, and some of them maybe Egyptian, we are not now, or are we likely to be any time soon, at war with Egypt. Egypt is one of our better allies in the region.
Finally, while your hertiage and cutlure are Egyptian, you are an American. It is right and good that you support your nation with your life, your fortune, and your sacred honor.

It does not matter that you are an Egyptian Muslim. Nor does it matter if you are not a U.S citizen. Many LEGAL aliens have enlisted and gained there citizenship while still serving. Just a few weeks ago a ceremony was held in Iraq were U.S servicemen from units all over Iraq were given their citizenship.
If you are a LEGAL alien, them give it a try. If you don't know what you will do when it comes down to helping, aiding, siding with a Muslim or Muslim nation, or to be loyal to the U.S and your fellow soldiers, DO NOT JOIN!
Remind your parents that the U.S gives large sums of money to Egypt and considers her a friend.
Good luck

I think it would be very good for you and our country. The best part is as a translator or interpreter maybe you can help our two countries communicate better. Remind your mom that Egypt is one of our friends. The military is an excellent experience and trains for leadership. It will look good on a resume' if you don't stay in. Go for it.

The national guard is a great organization and I commend you for wanting to be a translator. Translators are greatly needed in the armed forces and you could get paid well for it. It is up to you if you want to go against what your parents say, but I think your reasons for it are well founded. I say go for it, but make sure you have a contract from the military stating the type of job you desire. Don't sign anything unless it is what you want! Good luck and thank you for serving our country.

if you're an American born citizen then you should not have a problem joining. And as you said that you see yourself as a bridge between those 2 ideologies. The armed forces are composed of various immigrants or descendants of. If you look in terms of ascendancy we have English, Scottish, Irish, Welsh, African, Hispanic, German, Italian, French, and all sorts of immigrants. but all of them see themselves as Americans. We all have different religions. Whether it's protestant, catholic or Muslim we all fight for the freedom of expressing those beliefs ( as long as it's peaceful).

I dont think being a Muslim has anything to do with it. However, if you are an Egyptian you will probably have to seek citizenship or become an American to join.

you would make an AWESOME life for yourself if you were a translator. they are so hard to come across in the army....which i recommend if you are going to do it---go active duty. they in such need for translators of your language that..ugh..they would love you. lol
and when it comes to starting a life...do what YOU want. If you are 18 + then its time to live for yourself..not your parents. if this is something you want them go after it. The good thing about the army is that there is all sorts of different religions and ethnicity's and you will blend in with everyone. You would be a building block to start a new era in my opinion.

I say God bless you for wanting to join. Religion should have nothing to do with it, and I do believe you be helping building a bridge between two countries.
Your parents may view it as fighting your own people, but you would be helping make the world a better place. I hope I have helped, and God bless you for wanting to enlist. :)

Egypt isn't at war with the United States. The US and Egypt are actually allies so you wouldn't be fighting your people. You'd be assisting them. Go and be a translator. You'd be great at it
