No, but it has a lot better record than any of the monotheisms.
I like Taoism. Jainism is nonviolent.

It's a sane philosophy, because Buddha was NOT a God.
Perhaps the mere fact it is not a religion, excepting some sects that go against the teachings of Buddha to deify him- is what makes it so sane and humane.

They have not been in control of powerful states, so much of the humane appearance is just lack of temptation ! One could of course argue that Japan is Buddhist (Zen sect), and they were really vile in their behaviour in World War 2.
The ideas are nice though; its right that Buddha doesn't teach its acceptable to kill people who won't accept his philosophy.
