The town of Matlacha is a nice place to start. You may be able to rent a Kayak for cheap and fish around the island & Matlacha Pass.

You could also just wade-fish around Sanibel Island.

Here's how I would be rigged:

1 Med-action spinning outfit lined with 6/20 Power Pro with a 10-12 LB flurocarbon leader. Casting 1/4-1/2 OZ Chartruese-colored Jigs with Berkley Powerbait curly-tailed grubs in "Glass Minnow" or "Chartruese" or Berkley Swimming Mullets.

AND 1 Med-action lined the same way. Casting a 1/2 OZ Bagleys Chat R' Spoon in Gold OR a Yozuri "Live Bait Minnow" in PB Shad, (3 & 9/16").

Make sure to "sweeten" all lures with aerosal Pogey/Shrimp spray.

You could also just float a Shrimp/Finger mullet under a popping cork OR cast a Jig/Mud-minnow combo.

Sanibel's beaches actually have a good concentration of Spec Trout during the winter month's. Use a Topwater to "search" for concentrations of Trout/Snook. Make sure to "walk the dog" with your poppers. Unfortunatley, I think Spec Trout is "closed" in Feb.

Almost all bridges and cuts have areas to "pull-off" and fish and most are productive at various times. There will almost always be a population of Sailors Choice,Sailcats/Saltwater Cats, Pinfish, occasional Mangrove Snapper, Ladyfish, Needlefish, at any given "pull-off". To draw gamefish (Reds,Trout,Snook,Flounder, Mangrove Snapper), to your particular bridge or cut, it would be a good idea to buy some chum (or make your own) and distribute it around your fishin' spot. Chum draws baitfish , which draws gamefish.

Hope this helps ya? Good luck!
