Older standard def televisions have an analog tuner. These pick up ANALOG signals with an antenna.

Newer televisions include a tuner that can also pick up local stations that transmit DIGITAL antenna signals.

In 2009, the ANALOG antenna transmissions are going to be turned off. People with older TV's can buy a external converter box that keeps things working.

You only need to worry about this if your source of TV signals is with an antenna. CATV and Dish/Direct customers dont have to worry.
