stuffing your face with left-over slices of roasted prime rib, chicken and anything you can find sitting leftover near the end of the evening?

I have. LOL!

Off a customer's plate, no. That's gross. Although my dishwashers did. Ick.

But my waitstaff and I would eat whatever was leftover from the kitchen and hadn't been served yet. Like if there was only a couple cups of soup left, not worth saving, they'd call dibs on it. Same thing with leftover pieces from slicing prime rib, or an overcooked sirloin that was sent back after only being cut open, not eaten at all. We'd cook fish constantly on Fridays, and keep them warm in case the customers wanted another piece. There were always 4-5 left at the end of the night, there were always a few extra baked potatoes that hadn't been served.

And when I've worked for caterers, everything that was left in the chafing dishes was ours for the employee meal. I've had everything from veal, risotto, caviar canapes, you name it. So us banquet servers basically got the exact same meal as all the rich snobs...minus the wine.

Did this many times when in the Navy after functions in the Officers and Senior Rates messes. Plenty of liquid left overs as well!!

I would certainly be guilty of sprinkling some cheese on top of breadsticks and sticking it under the warmer...mmm, instant cheesy-bread!

But prime-rib and the such, no. lol
