I’ve been using True Image by Acronis since eighth version. True Image is very stable and fully featured product and nothing can make me switch to another one. As for backup strategy I prefer to backup my important files, they are located in one particular partition, incrementally once a week to the external drive. Also I have a full image of my C: drive.

The Go Back, or System Restore feature that is located in your System Tools is one option, be sure to set the restore point, if you would rather not use an External Drive like a Lacie, or Maxtor to store software, I tend to keep all my Software Application CD's together in case of a catostropic melt down.
If that is the case the Original Install Disc that came with your computer gives you the option to Erase and Install.
This option will allow you to restore to Original Default Settings. This includes getting rid of all the junk and trash that will speed your computer up to Original.

You can use the free Mozy to backup your personal data online securely. Is an install and forget software; it will keep the backup uptodate with no action.

Use this link to get 2.25 Gb for free for your backups:

I am using for many months and is very good.

I use WinZip to save off my data files and key information to a separate hard drive. I use a script to do this as I have about 30 different zip files that I maintain. I have it setup as a one-click back-up process.

I use flashdrives - one for work, and another for home.
I leave them plugged in and copy any new or modified file to the appropriate flashdrive as soon as I have saved on C:
