Here are some things to think about. Who's paying for the car? Do you know the safety rating of the cars you're looking at? How much do replacement parts and labor would cost for any repairs? Does the car feel comfortable to drive? Does everything work on the car? Who knows more about cars? How well is the car on gas?
If you are spending your own money, then technically you can get any car you want. But would you want one that looks good but is a gas guzzler and expensive to fix? Or do you want one that is safe, reliable and less expensive to maintain? I personally would choose the one that wasn't very flashy to be my car.
I'm sure your dad is trying to protect you and find the best car for you. It's not all about looks. One little bit of advice before buying any car.... get it checked out by a trusted mechanic before committing to the purchase.
Good luck!

just take him somewhere that both of you like( just you two) then ask him if you can sell the car and with that money you and your dad (or just you)can get another car.
