Anything above 4 million megapixels is good and will give decent quality prints. I've just bought a 7.2 million megapixel camera from Argos, and it is more than sufficient for my humble purposes. Only a professional would want anything more than this. You could probably get away with a 3 million megapixel camera as an amateur, but I wouldn't advise it. Aim for 5 million at least, or 6 or 7 million if your budget can afford it. At this kind of level you'll probably need to invest in a 1GB or 2GB SD-memory card for it as well, as 6/7million megapixel photos will eat up whatever memory is on the camera itself just like that and you'll soon run out of storage space.

These days the number of megapixels on even mid-range cameras is sufficient for doing decent prints. What you should really be paying attention to is the quality of the optics. If the camera you choose has a flimsy plastic lens, your images will suffer for it. The best way to find *your* camera is to look at images taken by it-- a favorite site for this is http://www.dpreview.com/ . Keep in mind that, in features, optical zoom is much more valuable than digital zoom, as is a li-ion battery over regular one. Other than that it's all subjective!

It should be a great camera with that many mega pixels. Anything over 5 is good quality. Try to buy a name brand unit, not an off brand because of the warranty.

Really depends on your output size that you want. If you want A3 size prints, you'll need a 8 to 10mp. If you just want an A4 and down, 7.2mp is fine.
Don't get to hung up on megapixels though as it is the quality of sensor that counts.

to tell you the truth i would say its just good because having the mega pixels more or less would only result the quality of the picture.
if the picture is with these 7.2 or 12 mega pixel then there are chances of getting the picture blurred & if the picture is with zoom lens then the quality would be better.
but for mobiles 7.2 would be great.

7.2 is good. I have 5.1 and it works great. I guess it would depend on what you're using the camera for. 3.0-5.0 is fine if your not a professional. Anything higher will give you better results, if your looking for that professional picture. If your an amateur, 3-5.0 will be just fine.

Mega pixels is not always a sign of quality. You can have a high pixel count and get rubbish pictures. I had a Kodak which took amazingly good pictures at only 2.2MP. The quality of the lens is vitally important.
