I'm sure it's usually because of the bad behavior of those other Christians. For the most obvious example, notice that almost every time that a Christian here mentions atheism at all, it's in the context of telling a deliberate lie about atheists. "Red" and "Kylie" just gave two examples of that right here (below).

However, very few atheists became atheists "because of bad experiences of Christianity in childhood". That's mostly a Christian fantasy about why people accept the fact that there is no god. For the vast majority of us, it's simply because there's no evidence that there are any gods: just simple honesty, no drama required.

I was raised Roman Catholic, and it wasn't a pleasant experience because the family that raised me attempted to "force feed" me their religious propaganda and punish me for noncompliance. That's not what turned me away from the religion tho. I turned way because the ideology didn't seem logical to me. I wasn't yet introduced to Darwinism, but I knew there had to be a more logical answer because it made no sense to me that if God made the universe... well then where did God come from? I'm not buying the song and dance about God having always just been there. If humanity is required to have a purpose than God should have a purpose as well so what the hell was God doing for the billions of years before the earth existed or hell even before humanity existed on earth? Religion is just a form of modern mythology.

Only a minority of Atheists claim to have changed their beliefs because of a specific abuse by someone wielding Christianity.

In fact, many many of the disenchanted Christians are Agnostic Theists: they believe in a creator but that organized religion is a political mind control machine that has little to do with him.

PS: Those are, also, the "Atheists" that most often convert to Christianity. They were raised religious, were disenchanted for a while, then found a nicer sect (often non-denominational) to join.

While I feel bad for people that have had bad experiences with Christianity in their youth, I think that it is important for them to understand that people are imperfect and are going to make mistakes. There are no perfect Christians (even Jesus' closest friend Peter betrayed him 3 times) and anyone who pretends to be is living a lie. No one should leave the faith because of bad experiences with bad Chriatians. The Word of God is the truth even though the followers of Christ are less tham perfect. That being said, I think that Athiests are mostly expecting to be judged, scolded, reprimanded, ect. by Christians, while most Athiests abhorr the idea of being told what to do or how to live, so they think that by berating Christians first they are going to deterr the Christian from trying to do whatever they think the Christian is going to do. People have to be open to seeing the truth before they will embrace it. Most Christians understand that trying to force Athiests to convert does more harm than not. :-)

Im no longer probably an atheist I do have faith in an more suitable power, in basic terms no longer the Biblical God. i do no longer see too lots hatred on the two side, I see some photographs taken at ideals and statements devoid of evidence on the two facets. faith is a fairly emotional subject be counted, that is why its counseled to no longer talk it in polite business enterprise. too lots of a guy or woman is represented via their ideals, so as that that's hard for some to chop up the conflict of words from and insult.

See no evil.
Hear no evil.
Speak no evil.

Christians are always running away from what they call "sin"...
A lot of whats considered sin is ALL around us.
Just Look for it. You can witness sin Every Single day.

And these christians enjoy torturing themselves as well as torturing others.
In the name of religion it is very easy.
By over-censoring themselves as well as others around them.
I know from experience.
Think of all the friends I had to try & cut ties with because of them dwelling in so called "sin".
And people get motivated by these religions to do things they won't normally (or natrually) do just in the hopes of going to Heaven. Think about it. Under the name of spirituality you can torture yourself. So many people have practiced this!

Their is just so much needless Bull S. that comes along with blind faith.
They do things to prepare for the next life. Instead of living this one.

I'm happier living as an atheist.. And know this:
I don't do drugs. I never have.
I don't have under age sex. I never have.
I don't drink Alcohol. I never have.
I am happier not because I am dwelling in "sin" now, but because I am no longer glorifying something I never really believed in to begin with!
I could never believe in Jesus.
Sure I knew he was real enough to have once walked the Earth. But no matter how much I meditated on the idea, I could never apreciate him the way other Christians did.
I don't have any idea how they go on following someone they've never met. I can't do that with ANYone.
Jesus is no exception.
Especially since he never left a book written by himself.
Only supposed quotes of his survive.
AND there is NO proof of Resurrection...
His body didn't turn up.
So what?
Do you know how many bodies havn't turned up since 9/11?!
Anyway..
I dislike Christians because they don't care to know the truth. Thats all. There is simply no other reason.
They rather hold on to old ideas, because old ideas & experiences are more comfortable.

I don't understand why it's so hard for some to admit that because of a bad Church experience, some became an atheist. I know of 2 such cases. Not everyone came to some astounding knowledge of "no logic". But some may use the "no logic" arguments to justify their disbelief. Many have a bitter pill. What's the big deal in admitting so. Read the weblogs out there. I read these accounts all the time. And no this does NOT apply to everyone calling themselves an atheist.

Most atheists that I know did not become so because of some bad experiences being a christian. They became atheists because of rational and critical thinking.

This atheist does not take anything out on christians. However, this atheists does answer questions that christians pose if he has the answer.

Why do Christians have the need to take it out on non-believers ? There is far more bashing of Atheists by Holies than the other way around .
Why don't the Holies practice their religion quietly at home and in their church , instead of on the world-wide internet ? If that was done , nobody would hear anything from non-believers .

Take it Out? Just stop the lying..If that is taking it out then so be it. You simply cannot take civilization back 2000 or 3000 years and not even suspect that mankind was not here prior to that time. That is not common sense.

One must understand that civilizations were around prior to Christianity and to reason that Christianity simply popped up is contemptible. One must investigate the ideas behind this view., it has nothing to do with bad experiences. Common sense and reason does play a large roll.
