Several videos have surfaced lately of Police (repeatedly) tasering unarmed non-violent persons in order to enforce compliance with their orders.
Tasering an elderly women, a father with his children in the car watching, distraught metally challenged persons. A few times leading to death in a few events.
But perhaps you are right Babe, officers should use deadly force and blow away unarmed, non-violent, elderly, metally challenged members of the general public they think are unfit.

I thought tasers were intended as an alternative to deadly force. Seems it is used as a cattle prod by some members of the forces.

I imagine pulling the baton would seem menacing enough. I know some people just don't want to cooperate with officers for whatever reasons but tasering those conscientious objectors seems harsh. On the other hand if they complied they proply would not have been tased.

I don't know. My dad is in his 80's and partially deaf. I worry that some cop who thinks everyone should bow down to him might one day ask my dad a question for whatever reason and when he doesn't immediately OBEY the cop, he'd get tasered and fall down and hit his head on the pavement.
This is why I don't like tasers. This is why I think cops are too trigger happy on using the tasers. They don't care if people fall and hit their heads.

A taser is a less lethal option used to prevent more serious injuries to the offender and the police officer. Its the same as our chemical spray and our batons. If you have never fought with a mental before, you have no idea how strong and pain resistant they are. Its safer to use a taser than to have 6-8 officers on top of an offender which could lead to broken bones or asphyxiation. The taser is not perfect, but it is still a much better option than deadly force. Quick example was the old lady in Chicago, who was also mentally ill, swinging a hammer. Pulling your pistol out and shooting her would have been justifiable because the threat of great bodily harm or death if she would have hit an officer in the head with the hammer was highly probable. Instead the officers on scene called for a taser. She was tasered once and taken into custody with no further incident.

They can actually stand up as soon as the taser stops pulsing. It hurts, but the pain stops instantly. What else should cops do to obtain compliance. There are other techniques. They are verbal (asking, which at that point probably ain't working), soft hand (leading by the arm and such, which probably wouldn't work in the given situation or wasn't safe), strong hand (which is pressure points and joint manipulation, which is very effective but can break/dislocate bones), baton (again with the breaking bones), or deadly force (we really don't want to go there).
Now I ask, broken bones or pain for a few seconds?
Sure, SOME cops do abuse the taser, but it is safe, and less harmful than you are led to believe. Almost every cop that carries one of these things has been hit with it at least once, if not regularly in training. I don't know of any permanent injury or death caused directly from it.
Don't play into the mainstream media too much.

Tasers are not used to replace firearms. They are a low level use of force alternative, much like pepper spray. When People are tazed, the pain only lasts as long as the trigger on the tazer is pulled- when the trigger is released there is no after effects and the pain stops- that is why people are often tazed more than one time- they keep resisting after the juice has stopped. People dont always fall down when tazed. I have had 2 occasions where the tazer did not work. One where a mentally ill man pulled the barbs out.

Here's a thought: Do as the officer says. Save your little ego trip for home. You won't look like Mr Macho Tough Guy when you are Tased, get a face full of pepper spray, or the nice officer breaks your wrist, and dislocates your elbow or shoulder while sub-doing you.
Once the charge stops, you will be able to stand.

I think it would be best to put the tasers down and return to just blowing the SOB's aways when they don't follow your orders to stop. How about that?

I wouldn't know. I've never acted like such a jerk that it was necessary for me to be tased.
