Kindness is reflecting from the eternal identity of all souls. Our true identity is one of eternal divine love as part and parcel of the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
Locked into this material existence due to our own desires from previous lives we sometimes have to struggle with our mundane desires in an attempt to be kind. Once we have fully reawakened our eternal identity then we should find that we are automatically kind without going through struggles with mundane alternate desires.
Therefore, kindness is a product of the evolution of the soul. As we transmigrate from one body to the next we may happen to get some chance to make advancement towards reawakening our true eternal self. This true awakening is never lost life after life. Each life we try to pick up where we left off. The more we are making progress in reawakening our eternal self, the more our propensity to be kind is awakening.

Nah. It is a state of having a temporary break to evolve and survive. Once our needs/wants are temporarily met we can afford to let our true self shines. Of course, this is the way of the ignorant(I'm guilty) who would associate stability and abundance on perceived absence of material and psychological threats. I noticed how people behaves( includes me) during Christmas. A time where people normally have excesses and the climate is more inviting. They tend to shower kindness even to relatively unknown bystanders.
So in answer to your question. No, I don't think it is the product of evolution. In fact in evolution, to succeed the specie must exhibit opposite the quality of the true self.

Affinity, expressed as ethics, compassion, love, is inherent to the universe. If there were no affinity between each and every point of space/time, each point would diverge into different evolutionary paths and the universe would dissolve. Our ability to express kindness, however, is a product of evolution within these parameters.

Why not? Why can't morality be a product of evolution? It would explain why murder, rape, theft, and lying are universally condemned in all societies, even by atheists.
Moral prohibitions against inbreeding might exist because inbreeding causes people to genetically self-destruct; moral prohibitions against murder might exist because a tribe that tolerates murder might go extinct very quickly; moral admonishments to be kind to others (feed the hungry, clothe the naked) might exist because it increases a group's survivability...

Kindness and empathy provide a discinct survival advantage, particularly in humans. We rely on our social groups for survival, primarily because it is much harder for an individual to survive alone. Those with greater empathy for one another are more likely to be more sociable and reproduce more.
Alas, reproduction is not perfect, so we ocassionally get someone who seems to be born with little or no empathy at all. Fortunately, even today they usually don't prosper very well.

Ultimately displaying kindness is a means of self preservation. It stems from empathy, the ability to understand the angst of others. If humans didn't have the natural capacity for empathy they'd surely kill them selves off a lot faster than they are now.

Evolving from the inside can produce kindness. It's not given from any source outside of yourself.

Yes. Humans are social animals who need their group to survive. The group needs its members to be kind to one another, so humans have evolved the emotions of sympathy and empathy to urge them to behave benevolently towards others.
