It seems like the number one reason they come here is to wait for theistic questions to pounce on with flippant answers such as:

"There is no god!"
"All religion is just a myth!"
"Prove there's a god!"
"Religion is the reason for all violence!"
"There's no proof God exists therefore there is no god!"
"Since there is no God your question is irrelevant!"
etc...

...or sometimes it's just a snide abusive insult crafted to gain attention and acceptance from trolls like themselves.

Why else do atheists come to a religion & spirituality forum?

Answer while you can because this will surely be reported by whiners.

Have a nice day!

1. THE TOP REASON ATHEISTS AND NON BELIEVERS COME TO THE RELIGION AND SPIRITUALITY SECTION: The boundless Christian love they find expressed to them by the believers they encounter here.

I believe that atheists come to this forum for these 5 reasons:
1. They used to be theists and it is only natural that they would want to present an alternate point of view from their own experiences.
2. They want to educate theists about what atheism actually is and what it is not. i.e. clearing up myths about atheists and there are quite a few
3. They'd like to be understood and respected for the decision they've made even if others don't agree.
4. They are interested in other theistic religions aside from Christianity. (I've seen this a lot)
5. They want to be as snide and 'whiny' as the rest of us can be sometimes.

It's like shooting fish in a five gallon pail I suppose, that'd be one. Two, it's fun. Three, it balances out the perspectives represented when there are those whom choose to dissent. four would be the association amongst their fellows, after all it can be rough in the real world for some atheists. Fifth and finally, because they can do what ever they want, just like everyone else, thank God!

I'm going to keep re-posting my answer, as it seems no one can use the "discover" function.

This forum IS NOT a christian forum. Nor is it exclusive to any religion. It is the SOCIETY AND CULTURE section with sub sections. Religion unfortunately affects everyone, and many have questions. Some people on here are incredibly rude, some truly want answers.

I am here to try to understand why there has almost always been a high percentage of society that feels the need to cling to religion. And now despite apparent fallacies.

My answers don't jump to the conclusion that I have that "There is no god!". I think thoughtfully about my answer, and what I believe in. I don't believe religion is the reason for ALL violence, but it has contributed a lot to wars. I reason that, because there is no evidence that god, anubis, or allah exists ( and I don't mean watching a sunset, that is opinion based, and totally irrelevant to a truth), that there are some alternatives to the widely held beliefs in deities.

I think many theists are misinformed about athiests, which gives them a very crude and immature attitude towards them. We are people to, we love, we live, we think.

1. To try to convince non-fundies that religious thinking is illogical (I know fundies are beyond hope).

2. To see if there are any holes in my own thinking.

3. To remind everyone that religious thinking can be very dangerous and is not just some harmless belief system.

4. It's fun. Someone once said that attacking the ideas of the religious is like hunting dairy cattle, with a high-powered rifle, and a scope, from close range.

5. To understand the human mind and why people believe weird things.

"Religion is the reason for all violence!"
They also come here for the same reason as theists. To save souls! Most of them were SAVED from religion, and there is still the chance that more innocent victims can be too.

If someone is saying they are an atheist to get attention, they are idiots. I beleive that athiesm is in the same context as that of Christianity or whatever. It's a belief, no matter which way you put it...

Athiest come to religious forums because they want to express their beliefs just as much as a religious person.. or to prove someone wrong...
