Proverbs 6:26: "for because of a harlot a man comes to his last loaf of bread....."
Are harlots bad luck? Are they accursed? Carry a curse? What's happening there to have such a negative effect on a man?

Proverbs 6 NKJ:
23 For the commandment is a lamp,
And the law a light;
Reproofs of instruction are the way of life,
24 To keep you from the evil woman,
From the flattering tongue of a seductress.
25 Do not lust after her beauty in your heart,
Nor let her allure you with her eyelids.

26 For by means of a harlot
A man is reduced to a crust of bread;

It's actually a CRUST of Bread you are reduced to. I think there are men that can relate to this Allegory. Here' an example of How much the NIV changes the original text.

Man makes that choice. The Harlot is a scape goat because those who hated, feared and otherwise disrespected women decided to shift the blame onto them rather than taking responsibility for their own actions.

Because harlots cost money -- usually a LOT of money because they are "holy harlots" of Ashtoreth or some other idol that mixed worship with sex.
