I was wondering if it is possible to get medically discharged for my flat feet because I have been gritting my teeth with this pain for a while now, through basic and infantry AIT and now its to the point that I have not ran or done anything strenuous in over a month and it kills me to just walk. I have not seen the doctor yet, I plan to see the doctor tomorrow but will they discharge me for it because I do not wish to stay if this problem is just going to get worse, I have already tried arch supports and they just make the pain worse so I don't use it.

How did you get in? Did you have a waiver to join? Suck it up. Try and get a different MOS.

Go to the Doctor and tell them your problem. He may recommend an Honorable Discharge or you may get a Medical Discharge and possible Disability with it at a small rate, but still it's something to consider when you see your doctor. You can discuss this with him.

He may also give you a profile for your foot which would include no running or pt, no strenuous walking and stay on the medication. This way you can stay in the military and pursue your career, but the odds are in your favor of discharge once you have covered all the steps.

Pes Planus (flat feet) which is symptomatic or requires custom orthotic appliances to correct it is disqualifying for entry into the armed forces {Army Regulation 40-501, paragraph 2-10 (b) (4)}. As such, you have a disqualifying condition which existed prior to entry and for which you will be administratively discharged under honorable conditions in accordance with Chapter 5 of Army Regulation 635-200.
You should get to a doctor at your fort or camp and have him begin the process of preparing a medical board report to start the process of separating you from the service.

desertviking is almost correct. I was diagnosed with flat feet approximately 1 year ago. After numerous trips to the base clinic for chronic knee pain, they sent me to a specialist. He diagnosed me with flat feet, which was causing my lower leg to turn slightly inward causing the pain in my knee. I was fitted with inserts for my boots, and everything feels much better. This is not a reason to discharge anyone medically anymore, and I am still in.

It is a possibility you may get discharged. You will have to go to the doctor's and keep your appointments. I would not discuss discharge with the physician unless he/she brings it up, but would seek medical care routinely. If you are unable to do your job, they may seek to discharge you. Follow the rules and stay out of trouble.

He should hook up with former New Jersey Gov McGreevey! He could probably tap something other than his foot!

Well you need to talk to an Army doctor to get the process started. Let them tell you what will happen or what could happen.

they shouldn't but it is going to be up to what the doctor says. the most they will do is give you a profile and let you continue with your job as best as possible. it is also up to your commander as to what they want to do with you.
