My Husbands Mother says you should do something and then pray to God for guidance along the way...My Husband says you should pray and have patience and God will give you what you want without having to maybe ruin your chances by being impatient and trying to do something yourself...
For example, If I wanted to open a day home my Husbands Mother would say go get a loan and start on it straight ahead and pray to God for help, where as my Husband would say, WAIT, and just keep praying and God will give it to you eventually unless he has something else planned for you.
What do you think?

HAY H, Yes! That is true! My Husband keeps saying to wait and God will give you a chance and when that chance does come you have to take it straight ahead! God gives us all chances, we just need to be aware of them when they come!

In the end, I believe there are some things you have to take on for yourself - that God counts on you using your own resources - after all He provided you with them- where applicable. (God helps those who help themselves.)
I feel with the example you gave - if there is something you KNOW you need to start on the path to something you want and believe in, the day home, you should go out and get the loan and pray to God for whatever other help, inspiration, etc. you need. Now, if you wanted to open the day home, and you don't know where to begin, I would say pray to God and ask him for help as you begin to figure things out.

I think Mother is more correct. If you prayed and asked God for something and feel in your heart that he is not against it, then go full steam ahead. You are bound to hit obstacles, but the hand of God will help you through them.

Who is more apt to get a job, the person who prays and then sits there and wait, or the person who prays and then goes out and knocks on some doors? Who knows what opportunities God has prepared; seek and you shall find.

You can pray that God will make the way clear for you, but you shouldn't sit around waiting for it to be dropped in your lap! That is just being lazy. God expected people to work at times and did not just hand them things that were already available to them.

Even when he made manna fall from heaven as food for the Israelites (note food wasn't readily available in the desert), he could have made it magically appear in their jars in their tents. He didn't, He had them go out and collect it. Sometimes we have to do the footwork and God will provide the blessings.

Praying is the right thing but the Lord is not going to make it all appear before you eyes if you pray hard enough. He will open doors for you. You will have to do your part and God will do His.

They are both right because it depends on the circumstances. When you are rushed in a situation that requires an immediate action your mother is right. When you have time to count the cost as it say in Luke 14:28-29 "28For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? 29Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,

That is just my advice from an independent third party believer.

You should start off with prayer. Then go on starting your business. If God doesn't want you to do that, or if He has other plans for you, that door will shut ( Rev. 3:7-8 ). You have to do everything in your power, then let God bless it.
When Jesus turned the water into wine- He told the servants to fill the jugs with water, then bring them to Him. He didn't need water to be in the jugs ( He didn't really even need the jugs ), He could have turned air into wine. But, He let the servants do everything they could possibly do, then He made a Miracle of it.

First, you should ask God if opening a day home is really what He wants you to do, because it might not be.
Don't get discouraged if He tells you not to, because that just means that He has something greater planned for you.
If He tells you yes, then ask God how He wants you to go about getting everything done, and ask Him for His guidance.

I would pray first for God's will be done then look for people that are successful in business and go under their wing and learn the way of it and go from there.

I am sure that you might have heard of the saying:
God helps those who help themselves
And what i have heard from my elders is that first you have to try to get to your target and if you try your best to get to that target God will help you in achieving it.If you dont do anything you wont get anything back.A plant only grows if you give it water otherwise it wilts. So your mother in law is very right and i think you should follow her advice.Goodluck
