What is your opinion on blasphemy laws. Below is a link to an article about a group in the UK wanting to sue BBC for blasphemy.

For Americans, what do you think of the blasphemy laws that were enforced Colonial America ?

Are they still on the books but just not enforced ? Or have they been repealed ?

Do you think we should start enforcing blasphemy laws ?
If they are still on the books, but just not enforced, should we take them off the books ?

Only God can take care of people who blaspheme. He will in time.

Some may be on the books still in America, but they can't be enforced, as the Supreme court ruled in the fifties that blasphemy laws are an unconstitutional restraint on free speech. I don't think we should enforce any blasphemy laws in a free country like America. For the harshest blasphemy laws look to Muslim countries, such as Pakistan, where blasphemy carries a life sentence.

I firmly believe in God and yet I believe the laws on blasphemy should not exist. I think that it should be illegal for, as an example, a Christian to go into a meeting of Atheists and scream at them they are all going to Hell, and I think it should likewise be illegal for an Atheist to go into a church and disrupt the service. But were you (or any other Atheist) to show up at my door and actually curse God, as long as you did not otherwise seem dangerous, I would likely ask you to come in and have a cup of coffee with me, give us a chance to get to know each other better. But then, most people do not know what blasphemy really is. Edit: At least what it is today. Peace.

It would be Interesting to see the FSM people prosecuting Christians and Muslims for blasphemy, whilst they in turn accused each other. It seems like a really good way to bring religion into disrepute....

Blasphemy is a religious issue.
All religion should be kept out of law and politics.

You mean when the Attorney Generals of USA states accuse the European Pope of covering up child crimes/hiding child crimes criminals, the Attorney Generals should be charged with the crime of blasphemy against the non-profit Pope of Italy?

The laws on blasphemy are bl***y daft.

If god is almighty a few words of critisism would not hurt him.

Or is it evidence of just how fragile Christian belief is.

I'd like to see them try and enforce those laws. It would be fun to see the ACLU come in and defend the accused.

As for England they did this to themselves letting all those foreigners in from muslim countries.
