I just need to ask why so many Christians felt affronted by an atheist who just asked a set of religious questions because he wanted information. He didn't bash. Some people answered and some just said 'you're ignorant' or 'read your bible more' or ' you don't understand much'. He clearly stated he didn't know anything about Christianity. He did no bashing. Why be so affronted by an atheist asking questions that are relevant? People get bent out of shape over blatant bashing but an honest question deserves respect. Is it just because they are an atheist that you feel you don't need to answer an honest question? That's not very loving as far as I'm concerned. All thoughts welcome. Thank you.

I am a Christian and I completely agree that an honest question deserves respect. It is not very Christlike to lash out at anyone. I am glad that he/she was interested. I applaud you for bringing attention to this matter. I think Christians should remember the Name by which they are called. Christ would not have responded with malice.

Which set of questions are you referring to? I didn't personally see anything close to what you're describing.
There is a problem with a forum like this, in fact any time a person sees only words--cold print, one of my high school textbooks used to call it. No one can see the facial expressions, or other non-verbals, to discern or figure out the moods of the asker. True enough, sometimes there's a "fight fire with fire" or "dueling flame" approach, but that gets nothing accomplished except hard feelings.
So if I am one of those who went overboard, too, please forgive me, as I honestly want to answer legitimate questions from those seeking opinions, references, and so forth. Also please remember that a) some people post on this site who don't share the same set of good manners or etiquette, b) Christians aren't perfect, just forgiven, and we strive not to give offense to anyone. Thank you for bringing this up to our attention.

I'm a Christian but I agree with you. Even though sometime atheist ask questions in sarcastic ways, (so do some Christians) however;
I Peter 3:15 states: " But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect..."
So if more Christians practiced this maybe people would be more apt to listen

I totally agree with your responder, 'Molly S." Just because someone CLAIMS they are a Christian, does not mean they are one. Just as someone that may "claim" any other faith or religion...or even non~religion.
On this type of forum since you cannot truly be "seen" and "known" it is anyone's guess if they are what they may claim to be. A rose by any other name is still a rose. You will KNOW a true Christian by their response.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
1Jo 3:10 - This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of God; nor is anyone who does not love his brother.
Hope that helps?!
Stay blessed!

I can not make that determination with out seing the question. It may not really be a legitimate question they may be your opinion. May be you could link it here or something.
Oh ok I had a problem with that too.
Go to the address window where it says http:// and right click on it. It should now be blue and it should give you choices of Cut, copy, paste stuff like that choose copy then in your question right click again and use the paste one this time. It will look like a bunch of characters but it should work after you hit preview and submit.

I have no problems with anyone asking a question, and will not revert to being a child to answer them.
If the question is legitimate then it will get an answer, if not, then I pass it
I try my best to do unto others as I would have them do unto me, but will admit that at times I myself fall by the way side
The same is also said about those who are Atheists who answer a Christian question, in reality, it happens on both sides of the fence

Respectful questions should be answered respectfully. However, discrimination against minor religions and atheism appears to be the last great acceptable form of discrimination. I'm sure some people mocked his question simply because he is atheist. Others are probably just little kids who haven't reached maturity yet thinking they're cute.

What are you getting your panties in a bunch for??? There are blows from both sides. If people don't want controversy than the should not ask controversial questions. It is all in fun, don't take things so serious. I like to poke a little fun at folks, I do answer seriously but also some jest in there.
Funny, Funny! You are so uptight! RELAX! I really couldn't care less about your panties...it is just an expression. Chill Dude!

EVEN IF the question is intended to challenge and deconstruct the beliefs of a religious adherant, there should be no offense taken when the faith is strong.
Getting ticked off at a Q on Y!A is a strong sign of weak faith.

Because Christians feel that they have the knowledge that Atheists do not, and answer the question that they can answer. And when confronted with question they can't answer, or a question the Bible cannot answer, they feel it is their duty to defend God any way they can because He (god) has not given them the answer to these questions.
