MS Works Suite uses Word as its word processor. On the negative side, Word doesn't play well with Works database or spreadsheets.
Word is a better word processor, but if you full integration just use Works.

Office 2007 is indeed a great program.
If you are looking for a good program that is also FREE, try using Open Office Suite. You can download it for free from Openoffice.org.

I have used it, and it works quire well. It also will save and read MS files, so you can work at home and then open the files at school or work on an MS system.

Open Office.
As others have said it is free and it has all of the functionality most commonly used in M.S. Office.
It is also less bloated. M.S. Office files are about 3 times larger than a comparable OO doc.
Since it is free, you can give it a free test drive. You can save your file in Word format (you have to specify this) should you decide to go to Office later on.
Good luck.
