My husband deployed 9 months ago and I moved 5 hours away from Fort Riley (our duty station) to live with my parents. I went to the doctor for depression and she referred me to see a psychiatrist. He wants me to come regularly to see him and his therapist for the next 2 months and also wrote we a script for a prescription. What will tricare cover of this? Any of it? My husband said I need to call them and tell them I'm far away from a post and had to go to a civilian for coverage and they should cover it. Is this true?? Is there anything I need to do to ensure they pay the dr. bills??? Thanks

go to tricare on-line there have a paper that you have to fill out so you can get care if you live to fare from post for to long. is not i big deal i had to do the same thing last time hubby was in Iraq. you have to be out more the 100 miles and be gone for more then 30 day for tricare to allow you to get care where you are at right now.

There are several different tri-care's available. YOu need to contact Tri-care and potentially change your coverage to match your needs. Tri-Care prime seems unlikely for you because there is no immedate military facility available. You may incur some out-of-pocket expenses but will receive coverage from tri-care provided you are using a Tri-Care approved provider. If it is not, then the whole thing may be out of pocket. Talk to the psychiatrist and ask if he is a tri-care provider. But definitely get on the right plan or it wont matter!

Tricare has a toll free number for your area that you can find online, just google tricare. call them and dont do anything more until you get prior approval from them. They will probably cost share what youve done so far, but its only November so youve got the deductible to meet.

You need to go to Ft Riley doctors to take care of it unless you moved because the Army said you could. I would call Tri-care and ask them.

call tricare...most likely they will cover it because you don't have a military base close enough to you...if you have one within an hr driving distance then they won't cover you...or they'll suggest you go to that base for medical issues...since you're already seeing a doctor that's not military i don't see any reason for them not to approve your meds and other doctor appts...

If it's non-emergency health care, you have to get it approved beforehand, not after. So you're up the creek for the first visit, but they should cover subsequent visits, but to have any hope of that, you have to get it approved before you make any appointments.
