In case you missed somthing in your education ,there were people here for a long long time before you. They got to name things before there were any names. It just comes with the territory. When you make a copy on the copier you say you're gonna "Zerox" it. The use of the trademark name became common ,and soon everybody was doing it. Early use of language was probably started in a similar way. So what would change the name of if you could?

This has been an ongoing communal effort since the beginning of recorded history. The West owes most of it's vocabulary to the Greeks and the Romans although there are several other influences.
A rose by any other name does smell the same. I'm okay with that, but there are examples of incorrectly used words. In English, we call electric carpet sweepers "vacuum cleaners" when in fact they are typically movers of air and don't create a vacuum at all. The French and the Spanish correctly call them "aspirators."
I'd like to fix the words that are obviously messed up and not worry about the ones that seemingly work.

We just have to agree on some things so we can make ourselves understood. You can make up any names you want, but others will probably not understand what you're talking about.
People are always inventing new names for things; slang is the vernacular in common use. Make up some new names and try them out with your friends.

Words were invented and continue to be invented by humans.
The vacuum cleaner of a previous answer is also known as an HOOVER.

Some German words are also mind bending.
