First you start by giving the information about the APPlication or Software you are trying to download.
Just from what you say it sounds like the software older and not compatible. It may be that you will need to purchaxe the newest version for your Operationg System and computer.

Its either a virus, or its corrupt. If sufficient antivirus is installed, attempt to redownload the file

This file is correpted and you could not fix it , if you have another copy try it.
